AMD just silently released the Radeon HD 7670 but as expected and rumored earlier on AMD has rebranded the HD 6670 to HD 7670 making it the same graphics card with no changes beside releasing it only... More...
Like allways, it is for OEM... whatever the brand they will stop do it when some OEM will stop want it.
So long as they're still producing and selling 6000 series cards means they will continue to somewhat support them with driver updates.
Holy crap, this is the second time they rebranded the same card: 5670-->6670-->7670 This is ridiculous.
Say thanks to OEM ( Dell, Asus , etc ), they do it cause thoses guys want to make the same PC, and sell it as new under a new name, with the last series numbers, and empty their stock... But AMD or Nvidia need to list it in their site. you will surely see only 1 OEM who have 1 PC or laptop with that, but .. well this PC will exist. Personnally they can rebrand all the Low end cards OEM they want. at the moment they dont appears in retail .
the 6670 was not a rebranded 5670, it is a Northern Island design - Turks 5770 -> 6770 Juniper 6670 -> 7670 Turks
Dell is pretty bad for this. I've seen a NVIDIA GTS240 or so in a PC and they call it ultra-end high Graphics card for serious games. Makes me wanna talk to every customer who is going to buy one.
I think I missed something. Do they use 28nm for this 7670 or is it just a new name, with the same technology as the 6000 series?
im glad that my 5850 is still pretty current with all this rebranding going on.. no wonder i can still make all my games run in 55+ fps *avg* maxed details its nice now i just need another one and ill be current till the next Dx comes out..
No, 40nm. This is standard fare with low end cards, and i don't really have an issue with it most of the time. I do have one issue though, and that is since this is a a low end card, 28nm would of brought many power saving features that if anything appeal to those consumers more than the high end gamers.
I hate rebranding! That said, I can only agree with some of what you guys said: Yep. As much I loathe rebranding, this means longer support for your hardware. I mean, I still have driver updates for my Geforce go 6200, whereas my Radeon X700m isn't supported by AMD (ATI, whatever) anymore. Who do I have to thank for this? OEMs such as HP who sell computers with nForce 430 / Geforce 6150 inside. I hated it when I kept seeing nvidia rebranding their cards, but at least, they would use a newer manufacturing process most of the time. Oh well... I guess that means you can crossfire an HD 6670 with an HD 7670 then. :B
this is getting pathetic AMD. i was looking forward to getting a good 7670, looks like i wont now. home nvidia has something better
I just think it's funny how when nvidia did it they got blasted by SOME now that ATI does it many of those people say nothing.
I've said the same thing many times. IF NVIDIA does something like this, they're evil money grubbing devils. AMD does it, suddenly OK with everyone. Childish.
