u could try with minimun amount of system ram and see if it helps how much ram there is in ur mates pc where u tested it?
i got e8400@ 4ghz 4gigs of randoom crappy ram mobo: p5q-deluxe "also tested on p5kc" and 6950 unlocked to 6970. it works fine. I got 700w modular powersupply , never had a singleproblem. so by "guessing" the problem should be your supply. 450w ? simply not enough. i tryed 6950(70) with gtx280 dedicaded as physx and sys go ok. you should try to get a new powersupply or. test the card on someone computer who gots 550+ Watts.
My PSU is 620W, definitely enough. What model of 6950 do you have? Mine is HIS (not the ICE-Q version). I'm thinking for whatever reason it just isn't compatible with PCI-e 1.0 boards
I think your retailer is telling porkies. Take the card back to the shop and get him to test it in front of you.
It's an eBay shop so not quite as easy as that unfortunately I have no reason not to believe him, he's got 100% feedback over 500 sales, and the replacement card he already sent me is definitely a different one (different s/n). I'm convinced it must be something to do with the PCI-e version. I have seen reports that some PCI-e 2.0/2.1 cards just will not work with 1.0 boards.
There's no way for anyone here to say for sure what the problem is with the info in the thread thus far. I have a feeling that particular model is not playing well with your older motherboards. If he was willing to accept the return and ship you another one, then he is probably telling the truth. It's possible he's not, but no one here can know for sure. You really need to test it in a newer system with pcie 2.x to see if that's the problem. The only way to determine the problem is using deductive reasoning. Remove all of the variables.
