6950 XFIRE = stuttering in BF3

My 6950 XFIRE, 2600k@4.65ghz pc stutters in BF3 on med/high @1920x1200. Im using the latest 12.1 drivers. I'm getting between 45-55fps and it stutters badly even with vsync ON and so is triple buggering. Thanks for your tips.

 

Does it still do it if you disable 1 card?

I'd bet that he gets higher frames with 1 card....

Try Catalyst 11.11c with CAP3. It fixed shuttering for me.

 

Did it stutter before you installed the latest patch?

I've had stutter since the game launched uke2:

 

Try and disable ULPS, see if that helps. Also do you use Afterburner? If so try without it.

 

most likely not enough ram or selecting too high settings. Works fine for me with the 12.1 drivers @ 5040x1050. Any stuttering i see is network lag only, i.e. can look around at 60FPS but other players stutter.

 

I wish I could play this game at 60 fps on High with 2 6870's in CFX and an i7 920 at 4ghz but i guess thats asking too much.

crossfire doesn't help me at all unless i'm looking at a floor or wall...then crossfire lets me get 120fps instead of 60 fps....but when you're actually out on the map in big areas CFX FPS = 34 and single GPU FPS = 35....I don't get it :wanker:

i've tried 11.11c....11.12.....12.1 w/all different CAP versions. this isn't happening for anyone else? as in you can actually go and fly in a heli on caspian border and you don't get a huge framerate drop? i'm not even on ultra....I figured these $500 worth of GPU's could handle high but nope. don't know if BF3 or AMD is to blame. never going crossfire route again!

OP, trying enabling vsync.

If that doesn't help, try these commands:

RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 1
RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit 1

 

disable hyperthreading in bios. This is a common problem for 2600k processors in bf3. I recommend 11.10 drivers over 12.1 speaking from my setup.

 

yeah OP forgot to say you NEED to disable Hyperthreading in the BIOS to get rig of the stutter.

with an i7 @4Ghz and 2 6870's you have to be VRAM limited, disable all AA and post results( as you say youre not even on ultra settings )

if you look at my specs you can see we both have 2x 6870`s but i have a 1090T where you have an I7 920...anyhow
i run 1080P and set my settings to "high"
no vsync
i never see 30fps and usually avg like 90fps
anyhow the 12.1 didnt work that great and i am currently using 11.12 with cap1 and they work better but 11.11 with cap3 was the best for me.

anyhow i only get slow down / stuttering when in heavy combat when someone is trying to shoot at me at close range when i am trying to shoot at them when at close range....they win like 90% of the time

I have checking some forums around the last 4 weeks trying to fix my bf3 fps issue. I calculated i spend 62 hours on it, leaving me without solution. I tried all the fixes, tried 16 different drivers with 7 different Caps, workaround people suggest but i got stuck with stuttering and 35 fps. Funny thing is i got 35 fps in 640x480 resolution as well as my native 2540x1440. Then the 8.12 beta drivers came and i could disable 1 gpu, improving the fps to 65 -70. Not satisfied i tried the 11.12 and 12.1 as soon as they were released, falling back to the 30 fps regions. After i switched back to the 8.12 drivers, i wasnt able to switch off 1 gpu. I used some cleaning tools, cleaned out registry entries, then i realised, even though my windows 7 64 bit was minimal configured with 2 installed programs, there must be something wrong in my OS.
So after all the effort i put in, i reinstalled my OS in 1 hour, i didnt even install 11.12 drivers, but just the default came with the install (april 2011) in the begin and my bf3 was without stuttering, 100-180 fps with resolution 2540x1440 low settings and 65-80 fps on ultra setting. I installed 12.1 later on and improved some 3-5 fps, just to inform.
So good luck to everybody fixing, i am gonna spend my time on something i should have been doing 63 hours ago

Yes, i think people should consider it, after a fresh install every video card driver is just a matter of taste, it doesnt improve a thing. At a local forum where i discussed these issues as well, 2 people reinstalled their system now and got cured
Maybe old drivers screw registry up and the current cleaning tools dont remove everything. Maybe the first bf3 patch changes something; on my old OS i removed bf3 and reinstalled bf3 a couple of times without result.

AMD by now knows how to install and REMOVE their drivers
most of the time its just the same settings that get installed over.

anyhow you should do a format and fresh install once a year and sometimes 2x a year anyhow

i use acronis backup to create an image of a fresh install of windows with all windows updates ONLY

then it makes re-installing ALOT QUICKER
you just RESTORE the most recent image and usually a few updates then install new drivers

but anyhow you dont have to format thats crazy

 

More crazy is spending 60+ hours finding a solution and left frustrated. A reinstall wont cost you more than 2 hours at most, considering the presumed ability people have visiting this forum. Off course i am aware amd has good tools, but maybe you have an idea why all got fixed after a format; its easy to fire off other people's ideas..
