I'm planning on upgrading from my amd x3 720 @ 3.4ghz. I use this PC for gaming and play @ 1920x1080. From what I've read the FX-8120 will get a Windows 7 patch that will increase performance(Win 7 does not optimally assign threads to the bulldozer modules), and benchmarks show a 20% difference in performance with Windows 8 dev preview. I just wanted some opinions from my fellow Gurus, which processor will better serve my needs for the long run? Honestly, I've always used AMD(more bang for your buck) but I'm leaning towards Intel for the first time. they are both about the same price @ newegg FX-8120 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=19-103-961&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Page=6 i5-2500K http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072
Since games pretty much dont support eight cores(most of them as far as i know) and the i5 2500k has better clock-per-clock performance and can overclock as hell, i say 2500k.
The 2500K is your best all around processor. For new systems it's very hard to recommend AMD at this time.
I upgraded from a phenom II x3 720 @3.6ghz and i can tell you its a huge difference going to a 2500k. You won't regret it. For me its like i made a GPU upgrade also thats how it felt . Everything was so much smoother and the more cpu intensive games came back to life lol...i replayed alot of games since my upgrade.
The FX 8120 is too weak and pathetic to be a terrorist. It's more like a crippled mute with cataract problems. When I saw the title I thought for a second that it was going to be a troll thread. Bulldozer architecture is a joke, it's predecessor was superior.
I'd take the 1090T over the FX-8120. Unless, you're going to be doing something so highly multithreaded ... but since most likely you aren't, get the 2500K. deltatux
