Hey guys, as the title says. I am looking for a nice gaming keyboard. i already have great mouse (Roccat Kone+) but am still using an old microsoft keyboard. What do you guys use? Could anyone recommend a good one for me? i dont want to go overboard here, but something backlit with functions would be nice. Main use will be for BF3 and Skyrim, and some coding. (BTW the keyboards below are in my price range, unfortunately that is it, if there are any other suggestions for a similar price, or lower, then please let me know!) My three contenders are below. Logitech g110 Razer Lycosa Mirror special edition Thermaltake Challenger pro Thanks All HandyAndy
My choice 1) Saitek Cyborg gaming keyboard 2) Microsoft Sidewinder X6 3) Roccat Isku 4) Logitech G110/510/G19
imo you need to find a keyboard you like and get on with. i'd love to have a fancy, dancy keyboard with the blue lights, little lcd screens etc. but for some reason most companys think nobody uses the arrow keys. the keyboard i use was £4 from tesco, only because the keys around the arrow keys are perfectly placed. the only other highend keyboard i found with nearly the same key config was the cyborg c1 or v1 i cant remember the name. so what im trying to say is try to find one that you like and does what you need rather than just getting the best.
honestly, the lycosa has terrible quality, the g110 (from personal experience) I felt was meh and I don't know the pro. I heartily recommend thought the razer blackwidow. it is an amazing keyboard.
Keyboards are like mice, you realy need to try them out. Whats good for you may be terrible for someone else, I like a "small" keyboard so went with a Roccat ARVO and love it, before that i had a microsoft x6 and did'nt like it that much. never been a fan of razer keyboards, all the razer mice i have had (4 in total) have all died or had faults within a few months so will never get anything by them again.Thats My opinion from using the mice and not forced on anyone else. Logitech make great mice (Got the G700 right now and it's fab) but don't realy like the keyboards. So go someplace with a range of keyboards (PC world/local computer shop) and try them out is the best advice to be given.
Gaming = allows multiple simultaneous button mashing = NKRO For a good price : "Steelseries 6v2". "6v2" is full NKRO and has notch-free keys (cherry black). The "Thermaltake Meka G1" is NKRO. I do not know about the "Thermaltake Challenger Pro". (goggling around leaves me with a shaky impression that the "Challenger Pro" has the usual 'optimized gaming cluster', i.e. WADS keys can be pressed together. But I can't say for certain. I'd look into it, since the "Meka G1" was good, this one might be good too.) The other two you mention are just regular keyboards, dressed up fancy. Razer Lycosa is 2KRO, with optimized gaming cluster. G110 is 2KRO, with optimized gaming cluster. -scheherazade
Hi all, This is already an oldie in gaming world, since last year with lights in it ...Merc Stealth Mine is about 4 years old now (without the lights.) Only thing i had to get used to were the keys from the keyboard itself are a bit tighter together then usual... KEyboard supports macro's, different game settings (changes instantly when start up game.)
Hey guys. That is my exact problem. We dont have stores here that keep products like keyboards around so you can get a "feel" of them. The one thing i have decided, is that i dont really need too many macro keys, i like my caps and tab to be the last butons on the left of the keyboard, and that my new keyboard must have a seperate set of direction keys. Apart from that, i have to pick one. And hope when i get it i like it really, that why i thought i would ask they gurus what they use and enjoy Thanks for the suggestions so far!
lol, so, my budget is out the window . And so it seems i can get whatever i like. g-19 or Razer blackwidow or anything else. Given an open budget is the g-19 the best choice?
no, I'd still reccomend the blackwidow. the G19 is a dome top keyboard and the widow is a mechanical. I prefer mechanical keyboards. The G19 has the same keyboard type as the G110. I got rid of the G110 the second I tried the blackwidow. I can't use any keyboard beside a mechanical one anymore.
G19 is 2KRO with optimized gaming cluster BlackWidow is 2KRO with optimized gaming cluster Meaning you can't use multi-button-combos involving keys outside the immediate WADS area. Which is likely not an issue, since most people don't go far from WADS. FEDS users (like me) more often find problems with the 'optimized gaming cluster' boards. In which case NKRO boards just solve the issue completely, allowing any key combo you want. Which goes back to my original recommendation. "Steelseries 6v2". Cheapest NKRO keyboard I know of. -scheherazade
I love my G19. The colour display is fantastic, its great to be able to view GPU temp+usage+memory use+fan speed, CPU use while gaming. You can have a webcam displaying on it, play video, some games can display stats ... Set the keys to any colour you like, it has 3 presets you can configure. The leftside function keys (G keys) are programmable. The rolling volume control should be on every keyboard. The powered, 2 port USB hub is really handy. Its a great multimedia keyboard. I've not had a problem with key rollover, it registers all the keys I press when gaming.
I just use my Logitech Illuminated Keyboard for gaming, and "lol" at all people who buy "gaming" peripherals. Comfort and versatility is above all else when it comes to keyboard/mice.
cant go wrong with the microsoft sidewinder x6. ive been using it for a while and it serves its purpose.
I have SteelSeries 7G. I cant live without that wrist rest (took it off and did not like). If you are getting that 6Gv2, you might need to buy that (doesnt cost much, just letting you know). The best thing you could do is to go to shop and test those yourself, I hate Logitech G-series keyboards. I dont hate Logitech, just dont like those models. If you are looking for mechanical keyboard, then MS X6 is not an option.
I have been using the Logitech G510 for about 3 months now and so far I really like it. With the included wrist rest attached I find it very comfortable to use. The keys have a nice feel to them (IMHO) and I haven't run into any issues with them so far. The LCD screen is more of a neat gimmick, but it can be useful for certain things like FRAPS, Ventrilo, etc. My only real complaint, and it is very minor, is that the back-lighting isn't as bright as I'd like it to be. The brightness is generally ample enough for most situations (great with no other lights on except your monitor/s) but there is no way to adjust the brightness level other than on or off. Though you can change the color (that includes the LCD screen) to pretty much any color you want. Though as others have said, you can't really make a solid decision unless you can actually try out these keyboards for yourself. Some really like the mechanical keyboards, some don't. Also keep in mind that the majority of mechanical keyboards will take some time to get used as they work a bit differently than the normal "rubber domed" keyboards. But I wouldn't say that is anything to worry about. As for an NKRO compliant keyboard, that is something to consider as well, but for most average gamers the 2KRO is usually sufficient. I'm not absolutely certain, but I believe that the majority of NKRO keyboards are only compliant when using a PS/2 connection due to the USB limitations (though I think the MS Sidewinder X4 has a built-in solution to get around this).
If you're going to spend more than $50 on a keyboard, I'd only recommend mechanical keyboards. I recommend these keyboards: Razer BlackWidow (which is what I have): http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.211324200 Razer BlackWidow Stealth (quieter than the original, but still Cherry MX Blue keys): http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.235228400 TTe Sports MEKA G1 (Cherry MX Black, quiet but not as typer-friendly): http://usa.ttesports.com/products/product.aspx?s=18 deltatux
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823795001 I love this keyboard. the enter key and the \ are a little odd but it doesnt take but a few days to get used to it.
