i just cleaned up some space on one of my ssd's and copied my skyrim folder from my 1tb harddrive to the ssd. nice improvement in smoothness, it cured some microstutter. so for anyone in doubt - ssd's will make skyrim smoother.

Can't say i've noticed any microstutter yet and te game rules nice and smooth. That's with full ultra @ 1080p with AO (oblivion one on quality) with extra draw distance on the grass/trees, tree/ground shadows and a heap of mods (mainly the body/face ones, better water and night sky/sunglare - and a lot of others).

That's with a regular 7200rpm HDD with the 4gb adjustment applied.

Well I guess I found the breaking point with the standard addressable 2GB RAM. I just added my 11th texture mod and things were looking great and running smooth. I decided to spam-level my smithing and fast-travel between Whiterun and Solitude and the game is having none of it - CTD every time.

I decided I wait 'til the next patch and see if I can get the 4GB LAA .exe going again ('application error xxxxx' when I last tried) . In the meantime, I'm re-installing the game and will play vanilla.

Downloading now; will be ready to roll again in an hour (thank God it's not a 20GB game).

Ye, the game is very very sensitive to mods it seems. Quicksave is my friend lately. I sometimes see Purple and Green textures showing up and after a while the game start stuttering. That's a sign to do a Save thru the menu and restart the game before it goes FUBAR and CTD.

I really hope the next Patch will solve these issues because they get a little annoying.

I haven't had any issues with Skyrim, weird.

Not wired at all, most people have no issues with the game, that's unless you start installing heavy texture mods as then you need to use the 4gb patch.

    Agreed.
I had zero crashes until I installed a hi res flora mod (the only mod installed).
Now I get a crash every few hours.

It looks like the problem is the way the game allocates or addresses memory internally.
It seems to break the bounds of 2GB when modded.

Thanks for fixing the typo :)

why not use the additional 4gb enabler?

oh and the 3960x uses quad channel memory...

    Heh, it doesnt bother me.
They should build a crash feature into every decent game so you get a reality check every so often.

Guys, did you know that you can mine ores by just swinging the pickaxe at the vein? Without doing the slow animation? Just dual weild two pickaxes and you'll have finished your mining in no time! :p

This. Boris from ENB said that when the game reaches its limits is very prone to crashing and that if isnt fixed by some patch that means no hi res texture mods unless messing with the large adress aware flag.

But the game by itself is very stable. For example, i just removed the textures.bsa from teh data folder, launched the game, and it worked perfectly lol (no textures obviously).

    This file has my endorsement.

The game seems to use excessive data cacheing, probably to reduce load times given the extensive size of the game environment. This is probably why the most frequent crashes occur when fast traveling to another area. The easiest way to confirm this is to go into a city and monitor how quickly vram gets loaded by simply entering different buildings and then exiting, it seems to keep everything stored for quite a while. Oblivion did the same thing.

    Hi all,

I could really use some help with SKyrim graphics.
To be really honest i did not read all 51 pages i started with it but i failed to complete it.

The problem is that when ever i or some 1 else is on fire i get black squares. i tried many different settings but i just can not solve it.

    My sys specs:
    AMD 965 BE @ 4,1 Ghz
    XFX 5970HD BE @ 900/1200
    8 Gb 1600 Mem.
    HDD OCZ Agility 2. 40Gb
    OS Win 7 - 64

    In CCC van 11.11a driver:
AA: App setting, filter Wide Tent
    AF: App setting.
    Tess: AMD opti
    Catalyst A.I.: High Q.
    AA mode: Performance
    Vert.refresh Off unless app spec.

Any 1 else had the same problem ? how did you solve it ?

    Thx in advance....

I get it sometimes, seems to be a driver or game issue.

I had this problem when I renamed my skyrim.exe to oblivion.exe. Changed it back to skyrim.exe and it fixed the issue. It seems to be an issue for how the driver profiles the software and draws the fire.
