    hello hello :)

I didn't play anything for a while and just recently got BF3.

I noticed that my computers is not as fast as it used to be. Can anyone give me an advice on what should I upgrade? get solid state drives in RAID, new memory (8gig), or a Quad core CPU?

I know I can upgrade my video card. I was thinking of getting a GTX570 but i'm worried that it's power will go to waste. Will my CPU be a bottleneck for a GTX570?

    Thank you. In advance ;)

570 is a great upgrade for your rig and will run BF3 nicely.
You can always upgrade CPU later, meanwhile you'll still get a big performance boost over the 260....it won't be a waste.

Not so long ago I was running a dual core Athlon II with my 6950, it ran most games very well. :)

BF3 will make both cores run 100%, but it's def playable...

    Anytime :)

Just to be clear, a dual core won't run BF3 as well as a quad, but it will still run OK.

You didn't mention any budget that's why I didn't suggest buying more hardware...
When you can afford it, the best upgrade after your 570 will be a quad core CPU....but for now the dual core will be OK. :)

my freind runs the game on a e6400 dualcore @3.2ghz with 4gig of ram and a gtx460. the 2 core do run at 100% load but the game runs fine @medium settings at around 60fps.

With two cores there's a chance of some stuttering because the game might stalls while waiting for some thread to do its thing.

Yep, I ran BF3 MP with my old Athlon II X2 and also my X4 with 2 cores disabled just to see how the game ran.

Both CPU's had @100% core load and I occasionally got fps dips and stuttering.

It wasn't bad enough to ruin the gameplay, but it was def there...once I enabled all 4 cores again it ran smooth as silk.

I got the GTX570 just now. I'll have to get a quad too. CPU load is 100% and frame rate drops ere and there.

I was in the same boats as you, I had a 4870 1gb and went to a GTX 480 and now it runs bf3 maxed at around 45 fps. the Dual core will bottleneck a little at 4.0 ghz but for the money the best upgrade is to go for a new video card. it will net the most noticeable increase in performance without buying a new rig.

i get 35-45 in battle. drops into 20s often...i'm not sure what to do. I might grab a used quad core from someone. no idea yet. it could be many things. I did a format too.

What settings to be more precise you play? What's your GPU usage in game?

That seems low, I got more than that with my Athlon X2. Reduce the settings to high/med see if it makes any difference.

Did you exit the game after you changed settings?

You need to restart for some changes...

No probs here, even the "first game of the day crash" seems to be gone here.

Odd, the game runs better with my SLI gtx465's at stock then at 750/1800. Not complaining though :p

I still get crashes to desktops on the regular. Sometimes I can play 1 round, others 5...happens at random times too. I've read a lot of people have this problem, I wonder if its SLI/crossfire related, hmm

This has been happening to me since this morning, refreshing the page normally works. Strange that its not happening to everyone...
