Hey guys! Been a while since I posted here!

Just built a new RIG last week. Haven't upgraded since 2008 so I had to read a lot of guides before overclocking since I was totally outdated Heh! Specs in SIG!

I'd need a little help and I'd have a few questions regarding my Ocing!

First would be : Is it possible that my 2500k can do 4.5Ghz 12+ hours Prime95 Blend test Stable with 1.360v but that it would need 1.460v to do 4.8Ghz Stable? Could there be something holding me or that is making me having to up the Vcore like that just to reach a stable 4.8Ghz?

Here is what I have set in the BIOS.

    4.5Ghz 1.360v Prime95 Blend test : http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff168/Xtreme_Patriote/45Ghz_6hSTABLE_LOAD.jpg

Second question would be : I run 16GB (4x4GB) of RAM @ 1600Mhz 1.50v 9-9-9-24 2T (Rated specs for my kit). When working on Ocing the CPU, I always drop to 1333Mhz. Could that be my problem? Too much RAM could cause me problems overclocking the CPU like it used to be back in days? Or maybe I should think of manually upping the VCCIO voltage?

If you guys have any ideas on what I could try to get that 4.8Ghz Stable with less CPU Vcore post 'em!

Temps wise, with 1.460v CPU Vcore, I reach a max of 74c (using Realtemp) when Prime95 Blend test is running. I just don't feel safe running 1.460v for the CPU even tho temps aren't that high. Never goes above 60c when playing Crysis 2. Plus I think it would be stupid to run 4.8Ghz @ 1.460v when 4.5Ghz only need 1.360v ... It's not like if it would make much of a difference when gaming. Don't get me wrong, I'd love having the CPU @ 4.8Ghz+ but in my case, having to shoot 1.460v through the CPU just to get + 300Mhz stable isn't a good idea IMO.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks guys!

Mine does 4.6 at 1.35V and needs a lot more to be stable at 4.7 too.

I think settling for 4.5 is a good idea.

Not much help, i know, but i'll let the experts give the advice.

First off turn the cpu current back to 110%. No need for 140%. And most chips need alot more volts past a certain speed. And dude offset of 1.470 is waay to much. I could hit 5.1 ghz with that amount.

Also having all dimm slots occupied causes more stress on the memory controller. See if you can do vccio of 1.05, 1.1 and a max of 1.2 and try lowering cpu voltage. For 4.6ghz i have an offset of +.35 with HT on. With it off i could do +.20

Setting the CPU from 4.5ghz to 4.8Ghz won't really make much more of a difference in games... maybe in massively loaded multiplayer scenes, but not by many FPS worth the voltage increase and the life decrease of the CPU (given the temps you stated before).
BTW which cooler are you using?
IMO 4.5Ghz is more than enough and is a pretty badass OC.
Great setup man, my congrats !

Thanks! I'm thinking more and more of settling down to 4.5Ghz for 24\7 use.

    Hi!

Someone told me to set it at 140% but not why. Now you are recommending that I should set it at 110%? Could you explain me what difference it actually make from 100% to 140%?

Yeah, That's what i thought too about the Vcore. But then i read that certain chips just need more Vcore than other to acheive the same clocks.

I will try to up VCCIO to 1.05v-1.2v and see if i can lower CPU voltage. I doubt it making any difference but I'll give it a shot! ;)

Thanks! I am using the Noctua NH-D14.

Thanks to you all for the help!

The sandybridge cpus voltage to mhz gain drops DRASTICALLY past 4.6 ghz.

    Thanks! I actually noticed that..:S

One more question guys. I'm having some serious issues with IDLE vcore when using Offset Vcore even tho I've dropped LLC to High and set "+" 0.040v.

I get random IDLE crashes\BSODs but never when Gaming nor Prime95 stressing.

Actually, as I was typing this, I had switched back to Fixed Vcore \ 4.5Ghz 1.360v in the BIOS and It still crashed! I have stressed 24h with Prime95 Blend test and all was fine at 1.360v for 4.5Ghz. I thought the ramdom IDLE crashes\BSODs were due to the Offset Vcore setting but now it does it even with I set a fixed Vcore!

I'm supposing RAM instability now. I will let Memtest86+ run from BIOS for a few hours and see what gives.

I have manually set the first 5 timings settings to 9-9-9-24 2T and manually setted 1600Mhz and 1.5250v alltho my RAM is rated at 1.500v ... Just in case.

I also dropped CPU current capability to 130%.

What do you guys think about all this? Everything was fine 2 weeks ago with the same exact settings!? :bang:

    I'm doing 4.3Ghz with 1.25Vcore, speedstep, C1 enabled, C3 (auto) and C6 enabled. I believe i can reach 4.5 with around 1.296 - 1.325
my first sandy bridge here :)
