Well, two reference GTX 570's can consume up to 650W. So a PSU with 950W-1000W on +12V rail would be recommended.
But that's their power consumption when doing stress tests. In gaming they use 350-450W, so you should be good as long as you're not running any stress tests, like FurMark, OCCT, Kombustor, etc.

Reference 570s consume nothing close to 650 watts even in SLI, even running a stress test.

    Simple math lesson incoming.

75 watts from PCIE slot on mobo + 2x6 pin PCIE from PSU also at 75 watts each = 225 watts maximum. Times that by 2 cards you get 450 watts. This is the absolute maximum the cards could ever use unless overclocking. And even then no little 50 Mhz OC is gonna do it either.

Look at total system draw at the following link.

    http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-570-sli-review/13

So unless you have a generic PSU you will be fine. And a generic unit probably won't have 4x6 pin PCIE connectors anyway.

you can try. If you experience 3d freezes with sound looping or your rig shuts of or restarts while gaming you would need a new psu. I think you can get away with a 850 watt though. go for it:)

According to G3D, single GTX 570 draws 225W in game, not in stress test. And I said that two draw 350-450W in game, which means one draws 175-225W. That is correct http://tpucdn.com/reviews/ASUS/Mars_II/images/power_peak.gif

And in stress tests power consumption is a lot higher http://tpucdn.com/reviews/ASUS/Mars_II/images/power_maximum.gif

so it will draw more power even in benchmark such as 3dmark11?

I really dont think you can run extreme benchmarks if thats what your asking. 5ghz+ cpu, 900+ on the gpu`s. I tap out at 5.2ghz cpu and 930/4400 on the gpu`s.

A good 850W PSU is easily enough. Even a high quality 750W PSU would handle 570 SLI. 210W per card + 150W oc'd CPU + 50W for the rest gives you roughly 620W under the heaviest loads which you practically never encounter.

It must be plenty enough... I have a 920W PSU and that's enough for my 2 GTX 480's, which are more power hungry than the GTX 570's... ;)

Nope. That's nowhere close to benchmarking consumption.
Those 317W are measured using torture software with power limiter switched off.
