Pretty sure Microcenter got the FX line before anyone else. That quadcore should be a good deal.

That would be a downgrade from your current PII X4.

Your Phenom II 955 is better than FX 4100.

Even the FX-6100 will have a tough time beating a Phenom II x4. It's pointless getting any of the FX processors, to be honest, as the Phenom II lineup is better. The FX processors aren't worth it. The A8-3850 is typically better than the FX-4100.

You're be better off buying another 955 BE for $120 off Newegg....or the 965BE for $130.

People should learn to read lol, Tyrant has said above that he's starting from scratch.

Now, question is what's Tyrant's budget? Maybe Sandy Bridge would do him good.

I would wait, your rig is already plenty powerful for nearly anything today. I would wait till the next round of releases (Ivy Bridge/Piledriver, Kepler/Trinity, etc) before upgrading.

Can you list out exactly what parts you currently have and what you want the computer to do.

Also, where is the purchase location and how long do you want the rig to last?

I'll point you in the right direction:

    Intel i5-2500k = $205

    ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 = $125

    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 = $50 (with free 4GB flash card)

    GIGABYTE Radeon HD 6950 1GB = $220 (after $20 rebate)
    or
    GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GB = $200 (after $20 rebate)

    600W-650W 80 Plus Bronze PSU = $60-$80

    Samsung F3 or WD Blue 1TB = $60

And if you squeeze it into your budget, a 60GB-64GB SSD for $90-$120 (Crucial M4, etc).
