    Hello,

    my Geforce 9800GX2 stopped working.
    I had a complete hang-up running Windows
    watching an Internet-Video.
After Hardware Reset Windows did not start.
After second reboot I have the following
error Code 43 in Device Manager.

Nvidia Driver tells me that i do not have an installed Nvidia GPU.

    Re-Installing drivers did not work.
Windows is running in generic VGA.

Is it a serious hardware damage?

Try uninstalling the VGA drivers then rebooting....drivers should reinstall.

It's worked for me in the past.......or the problem may be your card.

    Hello,

i have allready tried to uninstall / reinstalling drivers:

It is always the same procedure:

    1. uninstall them
    2. reboot
    --> Windows does not load

    3. reset after Windows does not start
    4. windows starts in second reboot with the error in device manager

Sounds to me like your 9800gx2 has failed. Since you haven't taken the time to post the rest of your hardware specs there's probably not much anyone can do to help you.

The only suggestion I can offer is to try to borrow a friend's nVidia video card and see if windows will boot without errors.

if the warranty is expired then you bake 9800gx2 in oven (do NOT use mircrowave) with 10 minutes and 200 ºC/395 ºF. you must remove cooler and clean dust in videocard before bake. -> http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=310810 - video included.

after bake, your videocard maybe can back to life. good luck! ;)

You can also try to clean the PCIe slot and the card with isopropyl alcohol.

I’d try a few things before baking. If you haven’t already, remove the card and clean the contacts of the card and the slot... (Agent_A01 beat me to it) If possible try the card in another computer or as suggested above, try a different card in the computer first. Could also be an OS problem, if you have spare drive connect it in place of the current OS drive and put fresh OS install on it for testing or back up data and wipe and reload Windows.

ive just reciently resurescted a 9800GX2.. using the self bake method..but for that..the drivers need to be loaded and running on atleast one GPU..
the primary gpu on the card seemed to be detecting as a 8800GT..

what i did was unplug the fan..booted up windows...loaded up a demo in GPU caps viewer, until it hit 112c and shut down the pc!...
took the card out (and after burning my fingers on the heatsink!)..hooked the fan back up..placed it back in the system (after it had cooled enough to touch!)..fired up windows..bingo both sides working perfect..

but geeze what a ****ty card! even when running in SLI... my single slot 4850 is faster..and farrr cooler..and it aint just a rebadged older generation card!

cant wait to get my gtx470 back from RMA!

    Hello,

    thanks for suggestions.

I have cleaned the card and removed the package.
It was not dusty, i use watercooling for the rest of the system.

    My System is:
BeQuiet Dark Power Pro 1000 Watt
    Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6
    Intel Core2Quad Extreme QX9650 @ 4x3,66 GHz
Innovatek Watercooling System Dual Fan radiator
    2x4 GB DDR3-1333 MHz Geil
    Geforce 9800 GX2
    1 x Samsung spinpoint F1 1 TB
    1 x Samsung spinpoint F3 1 TB
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 SP 1

System is running since April 2008 with the Geforce. So warranty is over :)

I think it should be time for an upgrade.
    BF3 is waiting :)

I will buy a new Nvidia Card and test it.

    Hello,

i have installed my brand new Gainward Phantom GTX 580 3GB now.

It works perfect. So the 9800GX2 is damaged.

I am just having a small problem.
This Card does only run in the second (lower one) PCIe x16 Slot.

When I put in in the first slot (like my old 9800GX2) the System Bios does not post. Only fans and watercooling ist running, but no signal to the display.

Is performance the same in second slot when first is empty? They are both x16 linked to the X48 Chipset I think.

Mainboard is Gigabyte X48T-DQ6 with DDR3 Bios Version 7B

ok but gainward is bad because the warranty is short. evga is good for long warranty with 10 years* or lifetime*.

    * - you must register within 30days since buy.
