Nearly 40 percent of Europeans suffer mental illness http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/09/04/us-europe-mental-illness-idUSTRE7832JJ20110904 Guess this explains allot of whats going on , On the other side of the pond On a serious note , News like this is just sad , makes you wonder about the Rest of the world
meh, the category for mental illness just keeps getting bigger, making that percentage rise. Don't think that's anything to seriously worry about.
I distrust both studies, seems to be just an excuse to sell more unneeded medicine to people. NSFW, Doug Stanhope ("I'm Doug Stanhope and that's why I drink"). He makes a good point about production: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PR4aQoezl-U
- Recession - War - Growing tensions between races and minorities - Crap TV - Crap music - Kids are getting dumber and dumber - Unemployment - Corporations raping the planet - McDonald's is still in business - Gotta do dishes - YouTube has more advertisements - You drink too much booze - You eat too much crap food - You smoke too many cigarettes Thats what it is pretty much, 24/7... List goes on and on and on and it has plenty of reasons to feel a bit down sometimes, hell you might have strong feelings about everything i just mentioned and it might get you down for a day or 2 and guess what... IT'S FINE! It is perfectly alright to to feel a bit down every now and again, dont need a pill to cure every bad vibe, tickle in your brain, numb hand or wet fart. There are too many people going to the doctors for some sort of "crazy pill" and they dont actually need it and there are also many who do need it but one of the problems is that doctors are sometimes too quick to hand em out. I can go to the doctors tomorrow and walk out with pills that make me "cope" and i dont even have to bullsh*t or anything and thus i become a number in a statistic this article is on about.
Exactly what I was thinking. I mean, I've got ADHD(pI)... that's categorized as a mental illness as well, and ADHD diagnoses just keep on rising. At least in Denmark... I guess maybe people are also getting more aware of potential mental illnesses. But honestly, I'd say that some mental illness fits >95% of the people on earth, so maybe it's really hypochondriasis that's on the rise. We're all unique, let's face it.
As the number of mental diseases 'discovered' increases the number of individuals with said diseases will increase as well. Simple fact of the matter is that no human is perfect, physically nor mentally and as such if you make enough checkboxes you can cover everyone as having some condition (or more likely, several). A big problem though is that, as humans, we seek the path of least resistance and that means that if there is a pill invented that will supposedly cure our ails you'll have many people jump all over it. And it's that self-diagnosis where people not only convince themselves but their doctors that they need some mind-altering medication which has, as far as I'm concerned, been a factor in some tragic events.
Nonsense. If it were n´ for those bright lights that follow me and those stupid pink rabbits with hippo face that insists on punching me in the face i would n´t need the medication. Luckily i´m not paranoid despite everyone i know wants to stab me in the neck.... More seriously it´not a number far from truth. Although putting anxiety and insomnia in the same bag of dementia and urge to eat the feet's its a bit pushy. But im sure pharmaceutical companies are very happy with taht. Exercise?! Healthy food?! NO!! Xanax!
If you take into consideration the free healthcare many Europeans enjoy then this could is not some kind of +1 for America as some are trying to claim, it could simply be that the inferior health care in America means that many mental health problems are simply going unreported unlike in Europe. Look at the Tea Party and the Westboro Baptist Church or Scientology...America is full of mentally ill people.
