Good game for free, enjoy. Was made by some of the people behind Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, and World of Warcraft, it originally came out in 2007, did not do too well, Korean company purchased the rights and re-released it for free, servers have been up for a couple of days now. http://hellgate.t3fun.com/home/home.aspx
Been playing the beta for a few weeks now since it opened, it's the x86 DirectX9 MP only build based on work continued from the 2.0 patch Flagship worked on but heavily refined. (As it's been live in Asia for about a year now via Hanbisoft since they took over.) Game is rather easy initially but gets significantly more challenging after the "free" area ends (You do need a act ticket but can buy those ingame for around 100.000 to 300.000 - which isn't easy to get so early in the game though.) and of course a heavier focus on the item shop has made many people a bit skeptical since some really overpowered stuff was added a while back. (10 extra skillpoints - above the games otherwise maximum of 70 or how it was - for a total of 50$ for example or two really strong buff pets for a total of 20$ to name some, act ticket itself costs around 10$ or maybe it was 15$ and gives access to the other parts of the game including act 3, 4, Abyss expansion and part of the 2nd Attack and Tokyo added expansions with Stonehenge remaining a free area but it's a very difficult one instead.)
It used to be free before as well, though there was a subscription aspect if you liked as well, has it changed much?
