This really sounds like babblefish to me m8, some explaination would be awesome! :)

My notebook is from BTO Notebooks, found at http://www.bto.eu/. I have been mailing with them, they said their videocards get a different ROM (or BIOS - no clue what the difference is) from a Chinese factory to have different clockspeeds.

So whenever I try to install the latest drivers, the installation fails at the "Detecting Hardware" part, it just cant find my videocard.

It came modded as a factory default haha. And flashing a BIOS sounds easy, but not exactly sure what that means m8. Bleh I have a feeling they fooked me a little with this 'branded' (MODDED?) videocard..

^After uninstalling drivers you need to use the "Scan for Hardware Changes" in Device Manger before trying to reinstall a new set,or else the installer won't detect your hardware.

Are you doing that? e.g: In Device Manager, does your gfx card appear?

OK I just looked at the 11.8 driver inf and your card is not supported, I'll see if I can find you a compatible set.

    I had the following drivers:
1st - Way outdated driver of the company where i bought the laptop.

2nd. Tried installing latest drivers via ATI.com, gave me a "Hardware not Detected" error.

3nd - Did some google'ing for modded drivers, I came across this forum and installed 11.7b modded by asder00.

4th - I found the lastest drivers to promise performance boosts in games I play, so trying the official drivers gives me a "Hardware not Detected" error. So I was wondering if asder00 has any modded drivers for v11.8, just like he had for v11.7! :)

    That's basically it m8.

Think I found your drivers mate, it sure wasn't easy, lol...anyway try these.

    http://download.bto.eu/Notebooks/17CL36%20-%2017CL37%20-%20(P170HM)/Windows%207/VGA%2017CL37%20(P170HM)/ATI%206970%2032%20+%2064%20bit.zip

EDIT: haha oh crap man I thought you couldn't install any drivers, didn't realize you already been using the 11.7's......well that's not so bad then. Just ignore the above link in that case they're prob older than wat u used already..

Haha, well these are my drivers. But they're way outdated m8. I have been sending dozens of emails back and forth with BTO, they decided to create (upon my request) a newer driver. Before they were done, I found 11.7b by Asder00.. The BTO driver is 11.5 or 11.6, so that's a step back for me.

Still thanks for trying m8, appreciate it! :)

Overreact much? It was just a nudge just like at work when you ask a question you already know and someone jokingly says, you already know this.

    Get over yourself.

That worked, installed the 11.8 southbridge driver, display driver and opencl driver, and then installed the 11.3 Catalyst Control Center, now I have the manual fan control option enabled again, it isn't grey anymore.

Read the release notes for these drivers, it's stated as a known issue with this set. I don't get how they can break something so major going from preview to WHQL, but I'm skipping these.

I can confirm that playing without interruption after 2 hours and 30 minutes to Bad Company 2, everything is normal, with no hang, as the notes said.
