DDR3 1066 and 1333 is what i7 9x0 seris support officially also, so nothing to worry about there.

As for two lans, SB is dual channel DDR3 not triple channel, again wouldn't worry about it it still offers lots of bandwidth as its not far behind Nehalems triple bandwidth at all.

If he only had to get a new mobo, I would have said exactly that: get a 1366 mobo and use the 920 for a while longer and do a major upgrade in the future. However, he has to get new RAM as well.

If he were to get 1366 RAM and mobo now (for the sake of his 920), in a couple years (by then his 920 will be very old) when he wants to upgrade, he will not have any use for the RAM and mobo because 1366 will most likely be obsolete.

So in the long/er run, by getting 1155 mobo and RAM (and selling his 920 and getting a 2500K in its place) instead, he will be future proofing himself much better. Of course future proofing doesn't come with any guarantees.

ps- BTW, OP, it's LGA 1155, not 1156 (like you wrote in an earlier post). Don't f@@k up and get the wrong mobo. LOL

Sweet that you may be able to reach 4Ghz on stock cooling. I have to use a monster cooler to do that. :mad4:

What I'm doing is selling my 920, ram, motherboard and even the new video card to have enough money with a blanket of money to see how much it all will cost. I will get a new video card next paycheck probably then after the cpu, ram and mobo upgrade most likely.

@mini, how come you only get 46 g/flops @4ghz and i get 52 g/flops (with ht off) @3.8ghz with an older i7 920? cant be because of tripple channel can it? i thought it was only worth 5% at the most.

NA iirc sb dual channel is slightly faster then 1366 triple channel

So what is a good combination to get this weekend for my cpu/mb and ram combination with a brand new intel i5 2500k I will be getting? Any recommendations for motherboard and ram, keep it not super expensive people but worth it, for overclocking purposes and I want 8gb ddr3 ram like 2x4gb sticks dual channel.

@tommy2005k I have no idea what my ambient temps are, but if i had to take a guess i would assume around room temp, maybe a bit higher then 25c (The GTA in canada has been getting hit with some nice heat wave and high humidity lately) What can you expect for a stock cooler? It conforms to specification, and running at my currents temps poses no unexpected life drain of the processor.

@deathspank Maybe the dual channel vs triple channel ram configurations plays a role in our different results, I'm also only using 1 stick of ram. lol I'll get another 4gb when needed. :)

Depends how much your wanting to spend, however i would recommened

    Asus P8Z68-V

    G.Skill RipJawX 8GB 12800C8 (1600Mhz)

When it comes to OC'ing the SB Chips i believe the Chip itself becomes the limiting factor before Motherboard or RAM. So either the chip will limit you or your cooling method will.
