4.8ghz overclock 2600k

hey guys currently at 4.6ghz with 1.3v on the cpu,
for people who have a 4.8ghz overclock what voltages are you using and do you consider it safe as in comfitable for day to day use?

 

4.8 takes 1.42v for me. anything under that is pretty safe as long as temps are good. after 4.6 seems like you have to start cranking up the volts

 

Never tried 4.8Ghz but for 4.7Ghz it takes 1.32-1.33v

04.09 edit : Not to mislead anybody who would read this, I found out later that what I said above would give me stability for about 10 days to 2 weeks, and that I need 1.35v for 4.7Ghz stable / 1.38v > 4.8Ghz

 

1.46V at 4.7GHz , 2500K on water.
Max temp on hottest core is 64C, lowest core is 58C. edit: ambient 26C
It will do 4.5GHz with everything at stock except the multi.

Not a lucky buy, about average.
Still silly quick though

How high you can clock is mostly dependent on the chip and its complete pot luck whether you get a fast one.
There have been a few attemps (that I have seen online) to source a fast one based on the batch, they have all been unsuccessful and had to rely on luck to get a good clocker.

Intel have stated that up to 1.52V is ok for benchmarking.
1.42V and 1.4V have been stated as the max for 24/7, I cant remember where I read that though.
Dont exceed Tcase (72C for sandybridge CPUs)

 

my best 2500k did 5ghz at 1.3v

takes me 1.32v to get to 4.8ghz on my 2600k prime stable 5 hours so far i had to turn off overvoltage in bios

 

you got a good chip I would go for 5ghz np

 

will try for that tomorrow hopefully 5ghz under 1.4v will be amazing

 

gone keep my fingers crossed for you ive got a chip in the mail that does 5.5ghz with ht on at 1.5v cant wait to see what it can do at 1.35 and then a quick run at 1.65 on 2c/2t for max clocks

 

what about HT ? im also trying to crank up i7 2600k, im new to Intels. i see 10C temp difference in HT on vs HT off (HT on is hotter)
with HT on and 4.3 ghz cpu is 68-69. at HT off 4.2ghz its 58-59. I am using H50/H60 gotta make sure lol.
currently im running on 100x43 with 1.33v (just keeping volt a bit high to learn more about Intel's OC). any suggestion \ comments ?

 

Guys, am I likely to get 4.8ghz with the i7 2600K on air at around 1.40v?

I have ordered the i7 2600k as well as the Asus P8 Z68-V-Pro deluxe and would like to get 4.8ghz out the chip on air... I don't want to increase the voltage too much, not much more than 1.4v.

What is the highest safest voltage to use 24/7 that wouldn't cause long term damage?

What's the best settings to use in the bios with the above motherboard?

I plan to use the cpu at 4.8 24/7, mainly for gaming, thanks guys...

Should it be stable at 1.4v? I will obviously run a stress test such as prime 95 for a few hours to make sure it is stable...

 

In my experience there is stable and then there is stable.

I replaced my 2500K when it died on me for a 2600K. It runs great @4600 @1.325v/1.375(BIOS/CPU-Z).

However trying 4700 @1.345/1.395(BIOS/CPU-Z)
Benching and even running Prime95 overnight (6hrs+) is 100% stable. BUT... Quite a few games will BSOD the PC. I never OC the BLCK btw.

I know I could just be unlucky, but like I said just be wary of thinking PC is 100% stable because Prime95 etc reports a stable PC.

On a side note running the 4700 speed with a Noctua NH-D14 reaches a max temp of 74deg which personally feel is a little too hot.

So basically I can guarantee around 4.5ghz but any more depends on chip, batch, etc, and you clearly stated that 1.4v is safe for 24/7 use...

I PRAY that I get a good batch...

 

Temps are key, dont go over 72C no matter what voltage speed and cooling, unless you understand the risk.

ps, there doesnt appear to be ANY good batches, just random good chips.
Maybe a pattern will emerge, havent seen one yet.

 

Yeah, what the hell is up with that? I'll get something SB later this year, and this is weird compared to previous generations.

1.38 is fine for 4.8Ghz but Prime blend will push temps to 82+
