First off, thanks to everyone for such an informative thread. Installation of the 8.723 drivers went off without a hitch converting an HD4890 to FP8750.

The 8.723 driver doesn't play well with the latest Acad/3dsMAX performance plugins. Does anyone know where I might be able to the older, matching plugins that are known to work well with 8.723?

    Thanks!

Hi Cadcat, I'm still in. Most likely by the time he gets to this, there will be several more 6000 series cards that have a FP equal. Right now I think there is only two. We may have to start there instead of the 5000 series card as the new drivers for the 6000's are already out.

Yeah the newer the better, atm my HD4890 does still a good job but I feel its getting old..

wo this has been a long run without a new mod. Are the new cards coming out fast enough that modding will not be needed? Would be nice to get away from ATI, it seems like it does not run that well in max, also CUDA would be nice.

Hi, i have been reading the thread, i have a HD 5870 1GB, id 6898 card, and i would want to try to softmod to firepro, is it possible, right?
    I have found a tutorial for mobility 5870 to v8800, ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...m/500390-g73-5870-softmod-firepro-8800-a.html ) but none for 5870 desktop.
Theres any old patch that would work with any old firegl driver? or shall i wait for new one.
I want to mod my card because im having a lot of "driver stop working" using 3dmax 2011 and W7 (only with direct3D, using opengl dont crash, but performance is crap), in adition to the high performance, of course.
    Bye

Wasn't it so, that performance in 3dsmax was same with and without "pro" accelerator?

PCIE and AGP should make no difference, as long as the GPU is supported by the driver..

Maybe drivers installed but I don't think you get FirePro performance.. There is a newer script by shoko for 8.72(3) driver and even this one doesn't work with 8.773.1 driver..

But anyway you could do a SPEC ViewPerf 10 run and post a screenshot here, but I don't think your mod was successful..

    Hello everybody,

I have a ASUS W90VP notebook and i have tried to softmod the two graphic cards : ATI Mobility Radeon 4870 Crossfire.

I have folllow all the thread and here is the result:

    @stock-----------------with softmod driver version 8.723
    catia-03, 4.70,-----------catia-03, 4.03,
    ensight-04, 9.46,---------ensight-04, 12.33,
    lightwave-01, 16.00,-----lightwave-01, 14.96,
    maya-03, 6.27,----------maya-03, 24.98,
    proe-05, 1.32,-----------proe-05, 2.61,
    sw-02, 15.29,------------sw-02, 17.87,
    tcvis-02, 3.45,-----------tcvis-02, 11.04,
    snx-01, 7.59,------------snx-01, 17.62,

It's a little better but i was thinking about a little more perf.
Now, I also have some graphic bugs in solidworks like black flickering.
    Did i do something wrong?

    Thank you
