Having problems after I tried to back up to a dvd. Win7 64 backup tried to format my drive and after it didn't see the disk. Tried system restore, no go- Flash bios to newer one, System sees the drive but can't install drivers(under device properties-CONFIGFLAG_FAILEDINSTALL) Installed a new drive and I get the same-thing- WTF? Whats the best way to reconfigure the drive? Help!!!! Please Thanks
He was trying to perform a backup. OP, try a new cable and power connector and SATA port. If its on an IDE ribbon cable, try a new ribbon, they are really crap.
No that didn't work get the same message that there's no driver. It has to be the fact that it tried to reformat the optical drive, now the system sees all optical drives the same way. Correction, it tried to format the DVD-R disk.

Ran sfc about 10 times, it fixed some but not all. I'm going to put the driver on to a usb flash and manually point to it. If I get the driver loaded sfc might get it fixed.
I was backing up to do just that. I don't know if I can do it today but I'll just slap the HDD into my HP xw8200 and see if something can be done with it, first let me try a IDE optical in it.
What kind of drive do you have? I've gone through a dozen DVD drives over the years and not one have I ever had to manually install a driver for it to work.
The 1st one was a sony sata $20 newegg, just got a new Liteon iHAS424 $25 newegg also sata. I was also thinking of getting a 8 gig data stick insalling win7 on it and then onto my problem pc.
As to why manually install, maybe sfc scan could have fixed the remaining corrupt files, just trying to come up with a solution.
Did you try a new sata cable? Try plugging it into different sata ports? I find it hard to believe that both of those new drives are dead.
I didn't get you initial post, your computer just "bugged" when you tried to make a DVD backup of windows? Now you can't even boot to windows?
How did you draw that conclusion? He doesnt mention not being able to use windows anywhere. His problem is that Windows wont properly install any DVD drive.
The drives are fine, I just don't know what Backup did that the system sees the drives but in the case of the 1st one, before I flashed bios I manually pointed to the driver and it installed but would not see the dick in it. Yes I tried new cables, ports.

I doubt backup did anything except fall over because of the problem with Windows using the drives. What security software do you use? I'm asking because something may be getting in the way of the driver being installed properly or being initialised. re your last comment, can you boot the windows install disk at all? Try with no other drives plugged in and set to boot from CD/DVD in the BIOS.
Before backup tried to format the disk, it was working great. Malwarebytes No can't use optical drives
If you cant boot the Windows CD, its not a Windows problem (unless you are having extreme bad luck and your Windows DVD has screwed up too!) Try some other bootable disks and see if you can get any to work. If not, it looks like there is a hardware issue. Maybe BIOS related, try resetting the CMOS.
