Hello well as you can see I am currently running a single 4890 OC and was looking at buying a HIS 6970 and running in xfire... firstly can this be done? secondly is it worth it? will i see a performance boost? Cheers
You can not crossfire a 6970 with a 4890. You can crossfire a 69xx series GPU with any other 69xx series GPU, eg: a 6950.
Bro just keep your 4890oc and get another 4890 and xfire that rock solid but im assuming you want DX11? so it boils down to the games you actually play that utilize DX11 it would be a waste if you only play DX10 games as the 4890 holds its own DX10.1 my 2 cents.
if you have a board that uses lucid hydra, you can run them together for supertiling via hydra a-mode. however, you probably wont get any notable improvements in framerates. better to just sell the 4890 and buy a single 6970. a single 6970 should outperform 4890 xfire, as well as avoiding any crossfire related issues. it also runs cooler and leaves you with the option of getting another 6970 down the track.
Cheers for the info, main reason I was thinking of the upgrade was for Crysis 2 coming out soon, so worth selling my card and going new gen cars ait/nvidia or just xfire two 4890's?
Make that I have sold the Gigabyte card for $150 and got two HIS 4890's to go with my first HIS 4890. Picked them up for $100 each! So TriFire is gunna be interesting lol any ideas on what I will get out of them on a 24" and 40"?
I got 2 4890's in Xfire totally owns for todays games. tbh DX 10 and DX 11 games are over rated, thats why they are still making a lot of games in DX 9. I normally play racing games and fps games like Blops and does not drop below 50fps on max settings when its bedlam on screen.
