Extremely slow display arrangement - 5970 Hello I'm having problems with extremely slow, and unresponsive display arrangement with 5970. It's been like this for as long as I can remember, so I imagine it's not driver related (though, I'm running 11.1 with ccc 2 atm). The problem occurrs when I; - Change primary monitor - Rearrange displays - Start a fullscreen game - Connect/disconnects a display - Create display groups - Recover from sleep mode - Alt+tab in/out of fullscreen games - The problem occurs regardless of how many, or which monitor I have connected. I can take everything from 20 seconds to several minutes, and my system freeze in the process. Ie. sound stops (using coax through motherboard), and can't move the mouse around etc. Sometimes, if I resintall the driver (with driver sweeper etc), it's fine for a while (doing the things mentioned in the list only takes seconds), then the problem reappears. I've yet to figure out what triggers it. I've confirmed; - That the problem occurs in all of the last 3 drivers - That it happens even with a clean boot, ie not related to other applications (though, maybe other drivers?) - That it happens regardless of whether or not the 3rd (no matter which one it is), is enabled/connected My monitor setup; - 26" LG (1920x1200), 24" Samsung (1920x1200) and 40" Samsung (1920x1080), though I doubt any of this really matters, as it happens regardless of this setup. So; anyone else experienced similar problems? It's quite annoying at times.
When I got my 46" Toshiba hooked up to the pc windows and the mouse cursor would not move very quickly on that screen until I switched it to game mode. If you disable your 40" does the problem go away?
I had some problems with slow Alt Tabbing on some displays with Crossfire enabled. I Do not seem to notice it on my old 17 inch CRT, but i do on my 50" HDTV.
It happens regardless of the amount of monitors connected. If only connect the TV, I get the same result as if I only connected one of the other monitors. I'll specify this in the original post now.
I've the exact same problem. Wiping the drivers and reinstalling seems to fix it for a while. I'm running Windows 7 64bit. When I alt tab out of a game or exit a game, I cannot hear teamspeak anymore.
but what happens really ? your image freezes and then it gets good again or you have to restart your pc ?
I had some of those issues, when I ran the 735/1010 firmware (as opposed to 725/1000) on my 5970. Can you doublecheck that your 5970 isn't overclocked? //Svein
Had the same strange issue with various drivers, if i reboot it goes away, if i let the pc run fully through the boot process ( dont do anything until win is fully responsive ) it doenst occur, too strange...
It does alt tab out but it takes a long time, 10 seconds +. My graphics card is currently overclocked, but it was happening before that. I've only overclocked mine for 2 days now and this has been happening for months. Might try old drivers like 10.9 to see if they are any better.
try the 10.5a (best drivers so far for 5970)... and do me a favor, see if the problem isn't the gpu keeping at 99% (i have this issue with drivers past 10.11 which slows down the s.o)... but 10.5a might fix it (at least in my case does)
10.9 are the last drivers that work for me. Have a new install of Win7 64 now and it's still happening with 11.3 drivers
I think al these slowdowns mean you got the 99% GPU bug. There is two solutions: 1) Back to Catalyst 10.10e. 2) Buy nVidia.
I have been going back to 10.9 but I just went back to 10.5a to try them out. How do I monitor the 99% bug?
Found this desktop gadget for monitoring ati http://blog.orbmu2k.de/sidebar-gadge...sidebar-gadget Tried 11.3 again and it is getting stuck at 99% I've read crashing and restarting the driver fixes it. I've got an way of restarting the driver and it seems to fix it, but the 2nd core is still at 99% and wrong clock speed. I'll test more tomorrow and post a link if it's working
http://ronkmonster.com/ATI_Restart.7z You need to edit the restart_ati.cmd and change PCI\VEN_1002*DEV_689C to your own hardware id (found in device manager) My 2nd core still says 99% but no delay when starting and exiting a game. Needs to be run as admin
