I'm planing to upgrade my very old Nvidia 8800 GTS. Normaly i am aiming for mainstream VGA cards as ATI 6850 or Nvidia GTX460 1024MB. Leaning more to the 6850 because in my country at this time it's about the same price as GTX460 or even slightly cheaper than it and the price cuts haven't began yet here so probably it would get even cheaper.
My main concern is that i see alot of reports on the internet that many 6850 cards from Gigabyte,MSI etc. suffer from Black screen of death in some games. I would like some reports in this thread of anybody that has an 6850 card and to state the exact model and brand and of course if they encountered the reported problems or not. Thanks in advance.

Anytime you have a new gen of cards you'll have a few issues. As the drivers get better they should be fixed.
The issues seem to be scattered. You could grab a 5850 instead and save some cash and wait for the next gen. There really isn't much of a performance difference there, and the drivers are matured.

5850 costs more and it is form an older generation and about the same performance. no go.i'd be saving money buying 6850 . i'm interested only about 6850 and its issues (if there are any) . also the issues reported on the internet seem to suggest it's a hardware defect rather than software problem. i saw some sugesting lowering some clocks to make it work without any problems.
i see so many read this thread but no one respond...gues nobody has a 6850.

I have the Sapphire 6850 from the first day it was on the market, and it is a great card. I had not a single issue with it and the performance is great for the money.

It isnt a monster like the 6900series are, but it definitely is a big bang for the buck!

You cannot make much wrong with it! :)

My 6850 is MSI OC. The overclock is little, just 820 mHz on the core and it's very quiet. I can hear it sometimes after long gaming but mostly it's quieter than the rest of components. Also, no problems so far, just avoid 10.12 drivers, they give bsods in sleep mode, but that's a 100% driver issue, fixed with 11.1.

Definitely install 11.1a drivers, and enjoy the massive boost in performance you will get.
