I'm looking to build a new Gaming PC and wanted to know if it was overkill for the current games that are out (seems like black ops for PC is the most CPU consuming). Budget is ~ £800-£1000 GBP

    Scans Edge Core i7 Bundle - overclocked at 4.8 GHZ - £533.60

Intel Core i7 2600K - Quad Core with HT CPU
    4Gb Corsair 1600Mhz DDR3
    Asus P8P67 Pro
    Prolimatech Megahalems Cooler
    120mm Akasa Apache Fan

    Or the Core i5 at 4.5 GHZ - £389.60
Intel Core i5 2500K - Quad Core CPU
    4Gb Corsair 1600Mhz DDR3
    Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3
    Corsair Cooling A50 Cooler

The definite's are mainly that i'm looking at the new sandy bridge CPU's and i'm getting the Nvidia GTX460 Gigabyte Super OC (unless things have changed and the card is bad even with the even more overclocking capability and from what i can see it will beat the HD6870 on gaming). Case i havn't really decided but i've been looking at the Antec 300. Power supply is out there no clue really but i think it was suggested that i get a 600/650 W. Was also planning on buying a 120GB SSD but not too sure anymore due to the overall price (getting close to £800 with the i7) Or just get a 1 TB harddrive and call it that.

Any help/suggestions? P.S if i've been a retard and missed something please say :p

Personally, I'd go for the 2500K because I can't see why you need the Core i7 2600K.

Ok for gaming i5 2500k vs i7 2600k, i keep finding mixed opinions. Some say the i7 2600k isn't worth it others say get it. So confused.

I'm also thinking about changing the card to a GTX 570 , seems a bit of a waste getting the new CPU with a lower end card. Also decided to scrap the SSD and wait for the newer versions to be released. Budget is ~ £800-£1000 GBP.

so are you buying a prebuilt or building it yourself? Either way I would go for the 570 over the 460 if you have a little extra cash to spare.

What's worth it is really just a question of budget.

If you're looking at a $200 graphics card, and a $300 CPU then that should really be reversed unless you're planning to upgrade the graphics several times between CPU's.

    A 2500K with a 6970/gtx 570 will always blow away a 2600k with a 6870/gtx 460.

Thanks dust. And i'm building it myself i was just going to buy the overclocked bundle from scan as i don't trust myself to overclock CPU's / Mobo's (graphics cards are another thing xD. Plus if anything goes wrong with the cpu/mobo i can just have it fixed via the warrenty without having to worry about legal issues.

So at the moment its looking like this

    Intel Core i5 2500K - Quad Core CPU @ 4.5 GHZ
    4Gb Corsair 1600Mhz DDR3
    Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3
Corsair Cooling A50 Cooler £389.60 for these 4

Anyone know if that Gigabyte Mobo is better or worse than Asus P8P67 Pro?

Nvidia GTX 480 or 570 ~ £300 (havn't had the chance to look and decide which brand to get)

    1 TB hard drive ~ £65

Antec 300 Case ~ £50 (if someone can reccomend another decent case for cheaper which doesn't look like crap it is very appreciated).

    Also a cheap 22" monitor ~ £100

Power supply is where i'm completely lost and would love a reccomendation.

About ~ £950 depending on the power supply

Hard to what the best overclocking board will be until the EFI/Bios gets gets tweaked. Tends to take a few months to fully mature.

A name brand 600 - 700 watt PSU with at least 50 amps on the +12V rail(s) is what I would look for if I were you, if you ever have any plans to go SLI/CrossfireX then you may want to look at something in the 850 watts range.

    I'd get the 570 over the 480.

Need some advice i really cant decide between these.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/650w...bronze-85-eff-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-135mm-fan - £65.87

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/650w...0-plus-85-eff-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-120mm-fan - £50.39

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/750w...0-plus-85-eff-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-120mm-fan - £62.39

I believe the top one is modular and the bottom 2 are non modular. I was thinking the middle one due to the price but i really have no idea (they meet the specs that were mentioned by Elder and i won't be going SLI on a 570 for atleast a couple of years which by then i'm sure theres going to be better PSU so its for now)

    Setup is -
    i5 2500k @ 4.7k GHZ
    Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4
    2x2GB Ram
Nvidia gtx 570 (brand yet to be decided)

    Coolermaster Centurion 5 II case
