I am OC my 930 for the first time. Is it normal to be able to run this chip at 1.216v and get 4.0 Ghz? I thought that seemed a little low, but it is rock solid in prime 95 and IBT.

I only needed 1.168v for 3.8 Ghz but to reach 4Ghz I needed 1.264-1.28v (cpu-z) which is still lower than many. If you're stable at 1.216, you've got an even better chip ;-).

It is low. You're very lucky to have such a nice cpu.

Now i wonder if I should push it even more. 4 is where I stopped but I don't know if it would be beneficial. What do you think?

I think you've hit the sweet spot there, high clock with low volt, if you start to increase the volt, it will most like cause the chips ability to hold 4GHz at that voltage to deteriorate quicker.

4GHz is more than enough powaa and e-peen (imo) ;)

Yeah I think your right. I will keep at that setting pretty impressed by the chip

very nice OC mate... just OC'd my chip to 4.2ghz but with 1.35v so i'm very jealous ;)

i dont know why you are jealous because when you oc by 100mhz past 4ghz the cpu can take an enormous amount of extra voltage just to make it stable, when he has hit 4.2 or 4.3,then show me your voltage and ill let you know if you have a low voltage required cpu, however GOOD 920 cpu's do intend to require less voltage than the 930's in general.:)

My 24/7 use with Hyperthreading on,i can hit 4.4 fully stable with Hypertheading off but i prefer it on at 4.3.

    4.3 stable linx 25 passes
    [IMG]

    4.3 IBT 20 passes
    [IMG]

    4.3 Occt(Linpack 1 hour which is plenty)

    4.3 Prime 95 5 hours

    1.420 for 4.2ghz. (HT off) >_>
But I am idling at 38-40.. and gaming goes up to 55-60.

I could careless about voltage though... as long as you don't go above the maximum and have low temps, you're fine. Since you guys are stable with a low voltage, why not increase it more and overclock it more? :)

    HT on or off?

I'm gonna try that volt on my 920@4.0GHz. Also, what multiplier did you use?

    Nice OC btw!

Worked great! Running 1.216v @4GHz with 21x190 It's still running AIDA64 System Stability Test.

Idle temperatures were in low/mid 40's (just came down from a 4.4GHz buzz so still warm) and now during testing with 100% CPU Usage the highest temps hit 65C on Core # 2.

At 4.4 the hottest core hit 74C

    Very nice FeAr3d.

My 920 is at 3.8GHz @ 1.21v, but takes a lot more juice for 4GHz stable, to the point where the extra volts and higher temps just ain't worth it.

Looks like you got a nice chip also.

Thanks, but it's just for fun. Not much noticeable from 3.8 to 4.0 anyways. 4.4 is only noticeable when converting huge files and such.

Not to flogg another dudes post but I just posted a report for bios setting in another thread that you can download that may help your system run more stable and lower voltages. Sometimes it's other settings that play a huge role in stable OC's than just CPU voltages. As most here know. I'm still learning myself about this stuff.

    Thread for 4.2GHz@1.30000v

depends how you were getting there and how well tuned it was...
if you use the x21 multi then yer 1.21 is good.....
if you got there using 200x20 then i used atm 1.275 but i know i could get down to 1.24......

i found that super high oc's require alot of tuning to get better gflops and calcs per second...i got 50gflops avg @ 3.8ghz and dropped to 46gflops @ 4.2ghz...

ps: by tuning i meant by adjusting IOH core, CPU/PLL, QPI/VTT, DRAM and a few little other things......... atm my voltages are:
    vcore: 1.275
    IOH CORE: 1.34
    DRAM: Normal
    CPU/PLL: 1.4
    QPI/VTT: 1.28 ( i think)

also i found mucking around with bank and channel interleave can give you a tad more headroom.

to be honest a well tuned 3.8ghz should be more than enough....
