maybe the GPU's BIOS hasn't been finalized? My Radeon HD 4850 when it got factory refurbed had its idle clock stuck at full speed before I reflashed the BIOS with the proper version.

On paper that card is twice as fast as a 4870, apart from the memory bandwidth. I wish I had the money for a 6970, the thought of amassing massive amounts of points in Boinc make me drool uncontrollably.

I really don't see what the upset is all about. AMD create price/performance products, whereas nVidia create performance/price ones. AMD's approach has been pretty successful, so far, and they've managed to gain the majority of the market. Doesn't mean they'll hold onto it but I really don't like nVidia's approach. Now AMD might release a product that is slower than the 580, and then release the 6990, which will crush the 580. nVidia Might respond with a dual GPU card this time, let's just hope it doesn't use 300W's.

    Radeon HD 6970 is 10 - 20% faster than GTX 480
Update: Hold the presses, it's faster

    http://www.fudzilla.com/games/item/21128-radeon-hd-6970-is-10-20-faster-than-gtx-480

Although there is greater efficiency in 4D vs. 5D but chose to escape the die area which is less than 400mm2@40nm
AMD has made the right choice by all and maintained the best performance money market
    If 6970 would surpass the 580 it would climb all factors, including the price and the difference with the Antilles would be frighteningly ridiculous.So many years have passed since the release of 2900 yet to understand the strategy of ATI;

    Keep this screenshot safely:

The only people who know how many shaders they have, will be the ones who have them to review, and the etailors, as they have them in stock now ready for the launch, but traditionally, they go up in shaders, not down, which they would be doing, by only doing 1536, as the 5870 has 1600, but then again, with the new 4 way supposedly giving more for less, i guess its possible, but i wouldn't rule out the 1920 either, as remember what happened with the 4870, they took everyone by surprise with those, as no one saw the 800 coming, and they do purposely give out false info, as they wan't to weed out the leakers :p

so the 5970 remains the king of all GPU's again? damn... what a load. At this rate a 570 looks like the perfect enemy of these new cards. As for the "best enthusiast GPU" line, doesn't that title go to the 580 on their Sideshow?

AMD has always been about price performance, if they can beat NVidia on the price by quite a bit then it is a win, otherwise this could end badly

.Friday, 10 December 2010 13:23 Radeon HD 6970 has 250W PowerTune Maximum Power

    http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/item/21172-radeon-hd-6970-has-250w-powertune-maximum-power

from fud but meh, thats where amd is going to beat fermi hands down :)

edit: amd have introduced new terminology here, they have three terms now for power usage and their Typical Gaming Power is roughly 190W:banana:, is this better than 570/580? il check...

edit 2: yep 580 consuption is 280w, from g3d review "Subjective obtained GPU power consumption = ~ 280 Watts"

    nvidia are getting served:biggun:

From that slide it looks like they wont even bother with the 6990 until Nvidia come out with a dual.

And fu power consumption, for us who overclock and overvolt our rigs to hell and back do they think we really give a crap? Keep that power consumption bollocks at the low end laptop range where it matters.

If they can manage the same performance as a gtx580 while using less power then bonus but don't go sacrificing performance just to try appease the green crowd.

ok how about this, the cards are getting capped at 250w MAX and average gaming Watt is 190W, how about when msi, asus, gigabyte etc bring out their HAWK, TOP etc cards to the table with no such restriction?

has anyone bothered to just look at the graphics tests , and compare them with a 580 gtx .
instead of viewing the whole score?

yea through all 4 tests below or around 22ish fps.. vs 20-35ish fps with 580gtx

i hope its not final or real score, because that would be a huge let down..

lol now im really curios about that ES sample:nerd:
