I have an Intel 80GB X25-M G2 with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. It does not show up in the BIOS unless I plug in my external WD 320GB usb drive. If I plug in the external usb dive it boots up fine. Chipset is AMD 790GX and set to AHCI, the ECS A790GXM-AD3 mobo to be exact. Please help. Thanks!

I'm confused, does it only appear in the BIOS when you turn your machine on with the USB drive plugged in? Or does the system just not boot unless you have the USB drive plugged in?

Have you tried removing the drive, clearing the CMOS then plugging the SSD back in?

Well seems to work now, but I can't figure out what BIOS setting caused the issue. Also when I enable AHCI the BIOS is now laggy between menus.

I cleared CMOS and now it works, no need for the USB drive to be connected. But if I switch from IDE to AHCI the BIOS menus become slow. You can see the screen refresh from top to bottom when you navigate thru the BIOS menus.

Oh. Well, urm. If you save the change and reboot are the BIOS menu's still slow? Either way, can you boot happily into Windows with AHCI turned on and only your SSD plugged in? If so, who cares how fast the BIOS menus are?

You might consider flashing your BIOS if you're having issues that stop your PC from functioning normally...
