As you can see from my specs I have a newish system with an old card, (don't really game anymore so speed isn't the biggest concern in this area).

Anyway I scored a free 9600gt today, but it didn't come with a power cord. Of course it will not work without the cord but I'm not sure which one I need.

My psu only has 8 pins but the card uses 6. Does a converter like this exist and is that what I need?

    Thanks

all you need is a 6-pin to molex connector looks like THIS

it should cost you no more than 1$ and i think 9600GT uses only one so connect this to your card and your set =)

Eh, your PSU should come with 2x6/8pin connectors..... and its modular

It does but when I connect the 6 pin from the psu to the 9600gt it doesn't get to post, it just starts beeping at me (manual says power error)

I might add that said cable From psu is 6 pin but also has two extra black and white cables that are joined together as 2 pins. they just hang there because my card isn't 8pin.

This is what the cable looks like, does anyone know if out is compatible with a 9600gt?

yes, was just about to say that 8pin connector has 2 slot u can put a side, so it fits to ur gt.

if it still dosnt boot, either psu or card is broken(card likely)

Ah, don't think it would be the psu, perhaps it is the card. Oh well, I'll put the trusty old 7600gt back in :(
