I'm getting a i7 950. I'd really like to get a Asus Rampage 3 Formula. But it's $299. I am hitting tops on budget there. This is a piece at a time buy.
Someone is GIVING me the cpu. This is for a mainly gaming rig.
5850 vid card. Full Tower case so room is no issue. It's a HAF 932.
I'll be buying maybe next week. Don't really want a matx board but would consider one with good reasoning. So please help a brother out with a good performing board.....
Memory I would prefer triple channel. Why? why not?

On a budget it would have to be the Asus P6X58D-E or Gigabyte X58A-UD3R.

There are a few deals on NewEgg in the open Box area.
Are they any good? Should I stay away fromt he open box deals?

Living in the UK I'm not best placed to comment on NewEgg having never used them. I have heard of others with issues with Open Box and associated issues with warranties but then I'm sure there are plenty of others without issues. My instinct would be to avoid however.

Most of my media centre is composed of Open Box items, but not sure if NewEgg's Open Box items are "safe". I got mine from my local Canada Computers store and they work. However, the motherboard box was missing things like the system beeper.

In most cases, "Open Box" just means that some accessories are missing. I personally avoid them, but I doubt there's a reliability issue.

I should still get a manufacturers warranty right?
I could get the formula for about the same price as the P6. I won't be using the sound card anyway. I have a Auzentech Forte.

I have a friend who had major issues with a Ramage 2 gene and his memory. he said, skip the hassle he went thru and get the 6gb Dominator kit.

Is there any other on the QVL that would be cheaper but run as good?

Wrote Asus and I'll have a 3 year warranty....
Gonna combine it with some Dominator 6gb... I'll be just under $400....
I'll probably not get the cables maybe the manual. But I can download it.

Either the H70/50 or Noctua DH14, the Corsairs will give you more space round the CPU socket, all are very effective when set up correctly.

What is a good CHEAP Air cooler? I've never messed with liquid cooling. YET!
I don't know if I will need one right away or not. My funds have been depleted so for now, the cheaper the better......
