So I recently ordered a 4870 to crossfire. They are sending me a crossfire bridge too. Do I only need 1 or do I need 2? Haven't done the whole dual GPU thing for a while.

    You only need 1.

I've tried 1 and 2 bridges. 2 bridges gives me better performance and no graphical problems as some suggest. Difference of around 500 points in 3d Mark 2005.

And I had BSOD when I used 2 but 1 was stable.

I remember custompc saying they never found a difference between one and two.

well logically, one would assume if only one crossfire cable is sufficient for a 5970 + 5970 setup, it should be fine for a 4870+4870 setup. but apparently people report that to run 2560x1600 smoothly, you'll want both cables.

I did some testing with Stalker COP benchmark to see if there's benefit of using two bridges or only one bridges, and the score with two bridges, increased in average by 3fps min, 1.5 average and none at maximum, but I also found out that when the levels are loading, the stuttering is more noticeable, but once it is done, the score is slightly higher, but not to make a difference at all.

Good I have my card arriving tomorrow. Do you know the best drivers for them? And I've never done Xfire before. Only SLI.
