    Make sure you dedicate your 2nd GPU to PhysX for Mafia 2. I know it's a pain to switch all the time, but it runs really good this way.

    And I don't think it needs a patch... it's just that the PhysX is too heavy on one card, taking a huge amount of available % usage in order to maintain a good SLI scaling.

    thanx for your help :) but how physx heavy for one card and it works good on one GTX 480 rather than 2 ??

    Like I said, Mafia 2 high PhysX can take up to 50-60% GPU usage. That's like half GPU power left for SLI scaling. It's obviously going to choke somewhere, and unfortunately SLI scaling is taking a beating.

    So by just disabling SLI and dedicating PhysX to 2nd GPU, you get 99% usage on 1st card all the time (enough to make it 40-60 fps all the time maxed out) and 2nd card gets the whole PhysX load for itself, making it wayyyy more stable.

    That wouldn't happen if PhysX wasn't so retarded hungry. I never ever saw SLI bugs in games like Cryostasis and Metro 2033.

    EDIT: just put your NVCP settings like this

    Check this out:

    http://physxinfo.com/news/3892/mafia-ii-is-not-using-gpu-for-physx-cloth-simulation/

    I believe that is why having not having a dedicated phsyx processor gives those sudden dips in frames (into 20's on my system as well). Because flappy clothing is being offloaded to the cpu rather than gpu.

    There is some tweaks you can do to basically not have clothing phsyx but have the other particle stuff. If you go to the mafia2 directory, then to 'edit' and 'apex' you can delete some files from the 'cloth' file to disable some, or all, clothing phsyx. Some are clearly related to characters, such as all those beginning with Vito are the main character.

    I guess if you have two Nvidia cards, you just need to set one to dedicated phsyx. I've got a 5970 and then the modded drivers for a gtx 260, so technically do have a dedicated card, but it still seems to be offloading to the cpu on my system.

    I've found that deleting all files starting with CC, CM, or CS (e.g,CCINZL_CCINZL.aca) in the clothing directory has stopped the sudden dips for me so far (but i may need to get rid of more).

    I'm thinking these files may be related to random npc's in the city as oppose to the others which are to key characters, so i may have disabled flappy clothing on 'other' npc's in the city.

    I run the game with the configuration that Wanny has shown, with two GTX 260's and the PhysX on high, and the game runs great.

    I have tried different combinations and agree with what Wanny has said here.

    Game updated, EXE file, launcher EXE and the GDFInstall.dll mainly but it did add a Materials folder to that PhysX repository with a Materials file in it, unsure what that does, no changelog yet.
    (Possibly minor fixes or new stuff with PhysX, possibly also cloth acceleration to GPU instead of CPU though Cloth is one of the effects that's often been CPU accelerated anyhow along with Ragdoll or what to call it properly with actual particle effects and material changes being GPU.)

    EDIT: From some Russian forum.

    In Mafia II\PC\DLCs under for example (for me in this example.) cnt_made_man in the index file "content" add the following to say the bottom of the file.

    </Content>
    <Content Name="Charger" Type="Car_Charger">
    </Content>
    <Content Name="Painting" Type="Car_Painting">
    </Content>

    So as for example it looks like this.

    </Params>
    </Content>
    <Content Name="Charger" Type="Car_Charger">
    </Content>
    <Content Name="Painting" Type="Car_Painting">
    </Content>
    </Package>
    </Package>

    Then take any car to the vehicle shop and you can use these functions.

    They aren't the first studio to deliver a bad patch and they won't be the last.

    I finally received my copy of Mafia 2 including two of the pre-order DLCs. I heard that they don't fit into the story too well, especially at the beginning, and that you would loose "everything" at a certain point in the game.
    I'm curious now if someone could give me an advice, spoiler-free if possible (like naming a chapter only for example instead of describing a missiong), where and when it could make sense to activate those DLCs.
    Having some fast cars from start on wouldn't be too nice and loosing some fancy wardrobe in the middle of the game sounds stupid also.

    Renegade
    Greaser
    Made Man

    All of these are pre-order incentives and add the same thing (EDIT: Well type of bonus that is, cars and outfits differ between them of course.), two unique outfits and two unique cars, they're always available in the wardrobe and garage even should you total the car. :)
    (Cars can also be customized and tuned as the other vehicles.)

    The current known Betrayal of Jimmy and Jimmy's Vendetta DLC (Which hits next week, with the Betrayal still PS3 exclusive for now.) add new campaigns and are not part of the main game story.

    You won't lose ANY of the DLC's content, even if the story "requires" it. You'll still have clothes in the wardrobe and cars in the garage, don't worry. :)

    Thanks alot, very good to know. I guess I'll unlock them after the first couple of missions then. Hopefully there's something like the Edition unlock AC2 had soon to even out the field.

    It fixed the game save problem. The stutter for physx pretty much is perfect if you erase all things in the cloth folder besides skeleton, table, and anything starting with VIT.

    I've done that fix.

    I'm not sure this relates directly to physx, more the loading between sections of map and interiors.

    <----- See My Rig

    That should be able to run it fine.

    I get the same issue regardless of settings.

    I'm at chapter 10 now so I've pretty much finished the game now and this stutter nearly always makes me crash when driving at high speeds.

    Apart from this bug I'm a fan of the game, not perfect but definitely a milestone
