So i was just about to pull the trigger on the 980x and then a friend shows me theres a rumor the 990x is coming out next month (sept.)

My question is, i read that there isn't that much a difference between the 2, but just to be clear, if you maxed out the 990x and you maxed out the 980x, are they equivalent to each other? Or does the 990x have something that the 980x besides stock speed?

Also, which one would you guys get? Thanks!

Have you Googled the 990x? I did. So can you.

I think the only difference is the multiplier, the 980X is 25 whereas the 990X will be 26. Which gives it like a 133Mhz clock frequency speed bump.

In other words fairly pointless in my opinion.

Wait for 990X but i dont think it will be any significant difference.

Just read that it may be based on a newer stepping also, however i dont think we'll be seeing 5Ghz on Air, Water probably, but not Air.

Just curious, can the 980x multiplier be bumped from 25 to 26?

Yeah mate, there both unlocked so you can keep bumping it until your system fails to boot :)

It depends on the mobo, AFAIK.

(By EVA2000, http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=247186 , did not read the whole thread, but it was max he had tried at the start. Turbo mode also increases the multiplier)

So in conclusion, the 990x is a 980x with a higher stock speed? (Excluding the rumors of a new stepping) :3eyes:
