I need to build a pc that will be used just for rendering videos using adobe. It's been a long time since I've posted on here but I know the people on here always have neat ideas so if you could build me a pc that costs around 3000$. I'll take any advice you have also
I second that. All I would do is possibly change the case (but that's more out of preference) and if you're doing video editing and along that line, an OK sound card wouldn't go a miss, especially with the amount of money you're putting in.
I might reccomend the intel core i7 930 more? I thought it was faster than the 6 core amd's with video editing.
erm wouldnt he be better of for a proper graphics card like a quaddro fx or something rather than just a gaming card? also, 300$ on 8gb memory? money to burn anyone? i7 is the fastest cpu atm, get that. also, why do you need to spend nearly 600$ on a SSD? rendering video is all mainly, GPU,CPU and memory. stick to raid Sata and you will be fine.
I appriciate the info. The guy I am working with who is the real multimedia guy has a better idea of what he wants. I am just funding the computer part of the buisness. I have built gaming rigs for years and am pretty good at it and I understand that when building a multimedia rig its all about multi cores, mem and the graphincs card "Quatro." I asked him to email the specs of the machine he was wanting to build but I want to get others input also. Last time I talked to him he was wanting to get a board that would hold 2 Intel Xeon proc, and like 16-24gigs of ram he said, and atleast 3 1-TB hard drives one for the OS, Another for Adobe and the last one for rendering video on. Also he and I were talking about getting an Nvidia Quatro. The big thing here is saving time while rendering the videos so from my understanding the Nvidia Quatro is a must I thought. I would think I should focus funds towards the CPU, Mobo, GPU and then once i have those selected buy as much ram and storage space I can and worry about the case last.
good point...i agree . haven't got much info about them. all i know is they are quite expensive...and might not fit in to OPs budget. oh well....this is the usual price range for 8GB memory. let me know if you find that is substantially cheaper. Logic. any system is as fast as the slowest component it has. read and write times matter. hence the SSD. again...thats the common price in the market.
I was goofing around on new egg and this is what I came up with for under $3000. I still need to add a OS and even then I still have a few hundred dollars to play around with. This system does not need a monitor or any periphrials like that. We already have those. Let me know what you think and let me know if I can improve on anything. qudro card is not worth it, you will see the same effect with normal gpu. I edit videos perfectly fine on my rig using Adobe Premier CS3 and my gpu is a low end one.. 4gb helped allot, had 2gb at first but i keep running out of mem.. so i suggest you get a huge amount of ram..and a nice quad, something like i7 930..
Well what I posted adds up to be Intel Xeon 2.4Ghz x16, and 12 gigs of ddr3 1333. This will strictly used for video rendering and creating/editing 2d/3d images for my multimedia production company. I feel that since that's what the quadro is made for I should use that. It's also similar to what Adobe recommends and uses in there rigs.
Agree. I too edit videos and photos using Adobe fine with my setup. Although i am looking at getting either another 280. Or 2x2GB-GTX460s by Gainward. Just for the hell of it.
This is what I ended up buying. I just ordered it so hopefully it will come in on Fri:banana: COOLER MASTER RC-692-KKN3 CM690 II Basic Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 69.99 Open Box: ASUS P6T7 WS Supercomputer "Ultimate Gamer" choose 3Way SLI + PhysX at Real X16 X58 CEB Intel Motherboard 309.99 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - OEM 99.99 Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition Gulftown 3.33GHz LGA 1366 130W Six-Core Desktop Processor BX80613I7980X 999.99 Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive 87.99 X3 PNY VCQ4000-PB Quadro 4000 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Workstation Video Card 779.99 OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G2000LV6GK 164.99 XION PowerReal AXP-850R14N 850W ATX 12V v2.2 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply 89.99 With Newegg discounts and all the total comes out to be $2,799.52 Let me know what you think
The XION PSU is a poor choice for such a high-end system. Also, you could've gone with a far cheaper CPU; the 980X seems like a waste of money TBH. Still, it's a great PC; I just think you should've gotten a better PSU. That XION unit is a Super Flower; average unit, but certainly not one I'd trust to run a fairly beefy system like yours.
For rendering the CPU is not overkill. I do agree about the XION, better to have stuck with a name brand. However, I can't find any professional reviews on it so...
I agree with you on the psu. I will probably change that out in the next few months to a better one. I needed to cut cost We will be running Adobe cs5 production suite, after effects, and boris. I'm pretty sure they will utilize every ounce of this machine.
I'd like to point out that the i7 950 has now dropped to the price of the 930. It can be found for $330 in my area so I assume it can be found in the states for $310 or less. Amazon.com has it for $309 I believe. The price of the Xeon equal, the W3550, should have dropped as well. That would be my top recommendation... if you can find it.
You made some very poor decisions with that build.. Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz - $299.99 (Lacks 2 cores, but is otherwise similar in speed especially if overclocked) SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB - $74.99 (This is the single fastest HDD on the market -- why get anything else?) MSI GeForce GTX 480 1.5GB - $449.99 (This one is more than sufficient) CORSAIR Professional Series AX850 - $189.99 (You want a reliable PSU, not a piece of trash like the one you picked -- read this please) Also I would highly recommend: OCZ RevoDrive 120GB - $374.00 ... For Windows 7 and Adobe. Seriously, it will make everything so much faster! With a budget of $3000, you have no excuse not to. EDIT: Upon further contemplation, you might as well go all-out and get the CORSAIR Professional Series AX1200 - $299.99. For a review, see here. Also, a little clarification regarding the CPU is in order: I'm not saying that you shouldn't buy/shouldn't have bought the 980X -- it's an incredibly fast CPU and encoding/editing definitely benefits from the extra cores and cache. However, for the cash you save in getting an i7-950 instead, you could buy an SSD and more/better RAM, such as this: OCZ Reaper HPC 12GB DDR3 2000 - $508.99.
The fastest CPU you can afford. The fastest and most RAM you can afford. GPU aint a biggie with video rendering. And HD space is upto you.
Thanx. I just figured like TriGGlety said I should go ahead and get the fasted cpu I could fit in there for under 3k. I would have liked to get 3*4gb of that same speed ram but what I will do is later prob the end of the year buy a 3*4gb set of ddr3 2000 and then take the 3*2gb i just purchased and put in another box ill build. I will prob put a high quality 1000W psu in this one so I have room to add another quadro card and just keep the xion for a backup. I will need to build 4 total boxes similar to this one but this one is the main one. Even though I did buy the best cpu and a real nice quadro card I still stayed under 3k. Id rather think big than wish I had.
Well, if I had been in your shoes, this is what I would have gone for (assuming that you wanted to saturate the $3000 budget and that value-for-money was secondary): OCZ RevoDrive 120GB - $374.00 COOLER MASTER CM690 II - $69.99 GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R - $209.99 Intel Core i7 980X 3.33GHz - $999.99 SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB (x2) - $149.98 OCZ Reaper HPC 12GB DDR3 2000 - $508.99 CORSAIR Professional Series AX1200 - $299.00 GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 470 1280MB - $309.99 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - $99.99 NET: $2991.92 (after mail-in rebates) Maybe for future's reference?
