Now in a few weeks or even days i will buy a new monitor 22"(21.5" viewable) its monitor with 1920x1080 resolution... And i have been thinking, with all this new games coming out i cant handle it with this single 4870,at least with decent graphich tho... so is it good upgrading to 4870x2,i thought about 5850 but i think i cant get it here, not new one for sure.... i dont care bout dx11,thats not important at this moment ,i want deacent fps with deacent graphich... I am gonna get a new monitor, and give the old one(asus vw193d-b 19") and my gpu card thats on the left for,hopefully,4870x2 if i can find one and get it... now is it wise decision? :)

yeh if u can trade your old monitor and 4870 for one I'd say go for it, they are great cards, watch out tho, a lot of them seem to die (including mine)

The 5850 is the sweet spot, especially at 1080p.

there is no way going to 5850,am not giving any cash,so i am looking to change the monitor and gpu for some better gpu.... i mean,i can only give my old monitor for another 4870,that can happen... btw if that happens is it important that 2 cards be from the same manufacturer or is it just the clocks and memory?

Btw,i just offered one guy one one trade forum my gpu and monitor for powecolor 5850 1gb gpu.. lets see what happens...

I know two people with single 4870's that game at that res. I wouldn't upgrade your card.

    DON'T UPGRADE to a Radeon HD 4870 X2.

It seems to love failing. There is a massive thread here on Guru3D where plenty of people complained about the card (including me) and its high failure rate.

go for the new hd58xx series, there's no need upgrading to something old..even if you don't care about dx11, get something from hd58xx definitely worth over an hd4870x2, and you won't have to deal with the crossfire problems that sometimes appear on x2 cards..

    What games are you playing?

If they're BFBC2/Metro 2033/ARMA2 then upgrading to a 5850/5870 would be worth it.

If they're COD MW1/MW2 then you should be fine with that single 4870.

I can't really recommend the 4870X2 though as I had issues with mine as well as a couple other people I know.

I'd hardly call no more than a dozen people something massive, hell it couldn't of been more than 8 people.

That being said, considering how drivers are going lately I'd stay the hell away from ATi when it comes to multi GPU setups until they pull their heads out of there ass.

I think a dozen is significant. More pages appeared later, and not everyone with failures posted in it.

Plus, if you Google the problems with this card, you'll see tons of results from different sites/forums.

Im sure you could probably scan over newegg customer reviews too on the 4870X2 and find plenty of complaints there across the board also.

I never had any problems with my 4870X2, drivers or otherwise (no I didn't try to play brand new buggy games that didnt have a profile) except that it died.

It is natural for the complaints of people about a card (or anything) to rise to the surface while praise is silent. People don't rant and rave about how good a card is; when there is a problem, THAT'S when you hear about it.
I haven't had any unreasonable problems with my 4870x2 and it is alive and well, albeit with an aftermarket cooler.
The reason that I don't think that it is worth it to upgrade from a 4870 to a x2 is because usually you can get GREAT performance outta a single 4870 on MOST games at HIGHEST settings (AA and all that aside).
Aside from this, are additional reasons as stated above. If OP is concerned with his 4870 not coping with 1920x1080 and THIS is why he wants to upgrade, I think that it would be a waste of money. First he should try the games that he plays at that res on his new monitor with his current 4870 and THEN decide if he needs an upgrade and to which card.
    My opinion...

    So no 4870x2,thats gone...

So what can i ask to get from my uncle, ati 5850(i doubt on it)5830,4890(xfx 1gb),and the last spot is for gtx 460(tho i am an ati fan) of course cuz of that reso all will be 1GB versions... What you think?

And btw,i play all kind of games, crysis MW1 and MW2,gta4,metro,lost planet, waiting for Crysis 2,nfs shift,BBC2 and so on.. Of course i am aware of that games and that cant all of them be played everything set on very high, but i want to upgrade cuz i am getting new monitor and the old one is gonna sit there doing nothing,so i cant give him and the card for something better, hopefully not giving any money... :p

Try to get either the HD 5850 or GTX 460. Should serve you well at that res.

The 4870X2 is a great card and will easily slice through every game at that resolution. However, the reason people are complaining about it dieing is they're letting their cards get way too hot. The 4870X2 will run hot unless you crank up the fan speed. The 2nd GPU is seemingly 8-10C hotter than the 1st GPU (from the fan) at least on the reference design cooler.
