I too like Gibson (as per my V pictured earlier). However, The "Gibson Sound" at least for basses, is a very muffled sorta like talking with your hand over your mouth sound to me. I prefer the very clear "Piano-ey" sound. My Warlock which is used for recording, with new strings sounds as clear as a piano. But to get a clear sound on my V, I had to heavily modify it (pics in links below) with a Carvin HB-4 humbucker, remove the finish to bare Korina, add a string-through bridge, 100-megaohm pots, and add a graphite nut. I want to replace the fret wires too as it can get a ceramic sounding fret click when I jam heavy. Those types of things we do though to get our instrument dialed in and to where we want them. What fun is your "stick" if you don't modify it a bit, right? But all in all Gibson makes a great product and I am very pleased with it. Here's the mod pics sans the graphite nut as we all know what they look like.... Full Image of my V Closeup image showing bridge mod and pickup mod
Everyone's got different tastes, but I've always been a fan of "rounder" guitars you know? I don't like V's or Explorers or Iceman or even some of the sharp edged RGs. I like em curvy like I like my women :nerd:
Indeed, I do too. Nothing like jamming along on a P-Bass IMHO. However, when playing on stage and using a wireless pack to play amongst the crowd like I like to do, the cut-out stylings/lesser weight of say a V really contribute to playability while also moving onstage a bit if one has that inclination.
I play a Rhoads Jackson.I've always liked Jackson/Charvel,and have usually played V's.When I found the Rhoads, I was in love.Refitted it with Seymour Duncan H'buckers, and through a Laney 1/2 stack it sounds great.
To addendize previous postings..I have drooled over and have almost masturbated to the thought of owning a true Steinberger bass like this...
hahaha this isn't just a Guitar.. this is more like a GAYTAR. bet if you kick those balls you'd get a distorted sissy like tone without a pedal.
Oh I hear you man. The explorer is awkward as hell to play, but its got a kickass tone for rock. I'd have to agree that round guitars are more comfy though. My Sg is more comfy to play than my V. I love them both for different reasons though.
"94" Gibson Les Paul Classic 60 (Has great tone. But it weighs in at 10lb's. Can be uncomfortable at times.) 1959 Gibson ES125T (Bought this in a pawn shop for $225.00. Had a Dimarzio humbucker put in. Also replaced the Klusons with Schallers. It's really a nice guitar.) 1998 Fender Roadhouse Strat. (Picked this up a number of years ago for $300.00 used. It's got Texas Specials and Sperzal locking tuners. Very nice guitar. Play this and the 125 the most these days.)
