Hello! I'm running 2x GTX480 with core i7 980x on Asus P6T Deluxe. I've got memory from Patriot (DDR3, 1600MHz, Viper II series). I've been using this PC for a week with 257.21 drivers. Suddenly it started to freez so I restarted it, but it kept hanging up while loading (when "Welcome" appeard on the screen). So I decided to uninstall the graphic drivers in emergency mode-it solved this issue, but only till I reinstalled the driver and tried to enable SLI. When SLI was being enabled my PC froze again. After restart it loaded quite well-everything seemed to be OK, but after next restart problem occured again. OS was loaded well, but both GPUs were OFF because of error numer 43. Moreover I had had strange information in my ForceWare, even before all this isseues appeard. This information was "Plug your SLI connector to SLI GPU in order to get maximum performance" Apparently both cards were connected with SLI connector, I also checked other SLI connector. the problem still haven't disappeard. Any ideas what causes this problems? Thanks for help.
First, I would suggest to try the latest driver version 258.96 If it is still the same, try without the SLI connector. If the problem remains then I would suggest testing the 2 card individually. So, just keep one in the first PCIE slot and run kombustor tool for an hour. If it is OK replace the GC with the other one and run the test again. If there is no problem then it means that the problem can come from your MB. (or maybe the psu but I doubt) By the way, are you using the latest BIOS?
Did you use a driver sweeper program to sweep the drivers? Something I would try after/before testing each card alone. Complete driver wipe. Turn off computer remove SLi bridge. Computer still being off clear CMOS. Turn on install drivers. Then the baloon should appear saying system is sli capable etc.... Power down put bridge on. Also disable the wndws autodriver install feature.
I've checked the newest (258.96)-problem occurs Both cards were tested separately and they worked fine GPUs were also tested with two other MBs (with the latest BIOS)- didn't solve I also reinstalled OS- no better result Other PSU were tested-still the same What the strangest is, that if PC doesen't hang up while start up it will work very well. But it hangs up extremly frequently. Any other ideas?
Uninstall driver using driver sweeper in safe mode. Remove lower GPU Reboot. Install latest drivers. Reinstall 2nd gpu install SLI connector. Reboot. I would also reset the CMOS. Remove battery, unplug PSU, depress start button, then reinstall battery. Good Luck. Resetting CMOS without removing battery and waiting for 20-30 seconds isn't recommended. Which MOBO do you have? The Asus boards must be CMOS cleared like I explained.
thats funny I run almost an identical configuration to yours and mine runs fine, I even get 2x the framerate in some games that ran slow before.
use an older driver..............recently I have installed the 258.96 and in games I am continuously getting lock ups and games stop working..........I am gonna install a later driver because previously I worked great...........could be a driver issue
Have you tested without the SLi bridge? It should work. "Plug your SLI connector to SLI GPU in order to get maximum performance" seems to report that the bridge itself could have a problem. Or maybe one GC has a problem on its SLI controller.
Try switching between SLI connector 1 and 2 on your 480's. That'll eliminate that one of the SLI fingers is defective.
Well I was not exactly sure if it is what Kruchy tried: "I also checked other SLI connector" (from the first post) Or if he used another SLI bridge. I need to improve my English…
I've tried everything with SLI connector- nothing has helped. I really don't know what the reason of such problems is. Any device of my PC works in other PC well but together they aren't able to cooperate.
It looks like my issue is strongly connected with this thread: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=3578161
I had the same problem when I first got my 480s. Drove me crazy for about two days. The only way I found to fix it was a fresh install of widows. If you have a spare drive try installing windows on it and see if it works.
Sorry, didn't see where you had said you tried the fresh install. Is anything overclocked? Are you using default bios settings?
On Asus forum I saw something similar to your problem Kruchy and the guys did the following: Go to your nvidia control panel - Manage3D settings - Global settings Search for Power management mode and change it from Adaptive to Prefer maximum performance
