So which 460 cards actually have vrm cooling? Review or retail versions, in case there are differences.

well like i said once it reaches above 75% it gets loud (for my taste really loud), at 80% it sounds like 460gtx at 100% in that video.

anyway it doesn't matter, this thread is about 460gtx :nerd:

This might explain why there is such a big difference between the sonic and platinum versions. 219$ vs 259$ here in Canada, so 40$ might get you more then a different bios after all?

    HeXadecimal does yours have heatpipes?

Hey, yeah mentioned this a couple of times (might have been in the other thread).

The NON-Sonic Plats DO NOT have heatpipes (unlike versions sent for review). They just have a cheap black alu fin cooler.

The Sonic Plats DO have heatpipes (as pictured above)

Neither have VRM heatsinks (unlike versions sent for review).

Also Hog, you seem to be skim reading as I already mentioned that the MSI has no VRM heatsink, but then it does have a much bigger fan with much more CFM, and an open radial cooler so the air blows directly over them and the hot air isn't trapped around them.

The KFA2 and Gigabyte cards both have VRM heatsinks.

Anyway, we're getting hung up on VRM cooling when the point is the retail cards aren't the same as the review samples, that's what I'm most miffed about.

The Sonic Plats use speed binned GPU's which it appears use a similar voltage to the vanilla 460GTX's, so they may actually be ok at the temps the cards produce.

What is not on is Palit's marketing sending different cards with a different fan profile that makes the cards quieter, and thus gets them higher reviews.

When I benchmark my cards with vantage the fan goes nuts, but when I'm gaming with V Sync on the card is less stressed so things are quieter.

I would be interested in screens of Furmark Stability Test in Xtreme Burning mode. 2-3 Minutes should be enough. Thanks.

I just got that card today.. =D It's idling at 35C right now...and completely SILENT!!!! No need for VRM heatsink as the fan actively cools the VRMs due to the heatsink design used.

I'm really tempted to replace my 5870 with two 1GB 460s.
