OH, and after reading someone elses post, I think the biggest WOW moment ever was seeing Quake hardware rendered.

I had been playing all the old ID games, Doom 1&2, Heretic, Hexen and my buddy bought this thing called a "3d Accelerator Card" (lol) by Canopus Corporation called a Monster 3d card. (Very similar to the first 3dfx Voodoo Banshe).

I thought it was a gimmick till he fired up Quake 1 in GL mode. We were both totally speechless. :eek2:

EDIT: for reference, the card I'm talking about came out before this one:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/3d-accelerator-card-reviews,42-4.html

I think it had a whopping 4megs...maybe less

No one lives forever 1 was like omg what a game. It was not about just shooting to progress but one had to really think hard how to get past obstacles.

    When I went from a 486DX 50mhz which couldn't even run Duke3D properly @320x200 to a P2-300mhz + voodoo2:

First game I played on that was Unreal @800x600, 50+fps. It was the best thing I had ever seen on the PC.

I remember this clearly and thought much the same thing at the time of playing it. It verged on horrifying and had a very psychological edge that just seemed to grab hold of you. There is only "one" game to this day that has gripped me in the same respect as that.

The game in question being Thief 3 during the Cradle level. The first part especially I found extremely creepy - and again it had the overtone that children had been involved in whatever happened. The entire game leads you up, telling you stories which you overhear from NPC's, or find written in books and journals. The atmosphere is absolutely unrivaled to me - if you've never played the game I'd recommend it for that level alone.

An skirmish game on age of empires 2 when i was 8. Liked to play 10h games (saving and such) all the way behind towers until map had no resources and computer would die bcs of that, idk why but i remember everything from that game, even the map xD.

Also first time i saw Lord of the rings scenario for age of empires 2. Made a good community of ~20guys playing that for a looong time.

And well... one for many here, ME ending.

Mass Effect 1...the entire game...I was just amazed at how beautiful the world was as well as the great immersion/cities full of people. I don't remember the names of all the planets but the one with the krogan facility...mind blowingly sexy.

Bioshock: the "would you kindly revelation" for all the right reasons...and the ending....for all the wrong reasons...most immersive unique shooter /best atmosphere /best story...but the worst ending of all games i've ever played.

Bioshock 2: ending..it made me very sad, when a game makes you care for the characters you know it has done it's job, it had a great ending.

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time: The entire game also, a beautiful immersive world that I was sad to leave. Gaming would be much poorer without the Zelda series in it, also Majora's Mask...great game, possibly ever better than OoT, but it comes in second because OoT did it right first, MM was very unique though I liked the time scenario...

Fallout 3: The entire game...I've played a lot of RPGs...none quite the same as this, if only it would stop crashing it might be my favourite game
