as the title been offered a gtx 295 with 3 months guarantee or a new gtx460 for the same money which would you buy and why. one of my mates says the gtx295 is only dx10 and will be hot and noisy but for raw power its got way more than a gtx 460 cant decide psu is 850w not updated sig for a while
I'd keep the 5850. However, if I had to chose with your PSU I'd take the 460 unless you're on a 30" monitor. The 295 would run circles around it but would lack dx11 and some brands recommend 680W psu's.
If its possible I would sell your 5850 and get 2 gtx 460 .........in SLI mode they scale perfect lol!!!!!!!!!
Farcry 2 (1920 x 1200 8xAA): 295 = 76 fps 460 = 72 fps Anno 1404: 295: 77 fps 460: 58 fps Crysis Warhead: 295: 51 fps 460 41 fps The 460 1GB (Palit) is about 20% slower than the 295 but it does have tessellation and Directx 11, if you have multiple monitors then the 295 can use 3d/2d vision surround out of the box (you'd need 2 460's). Personally I'd get a 460 and upgrade to SLI soon after.
my psu is 850w these days and been having grey screen of death problems with my 5870 hence the need for change and my question will i actually use dx11 or the tessalation currently.
well tesselation & dx11 are not being implemented a lot in games, only few of them have this implemented such as metro 2033, batman arkham, dirt2 and another few.............so dx 11 & tesselation would much more implemented in the future............so if you buy a ready dx11 card...........you be future proof, thus ready for future changes in the game industry for sure
SLI 5850's, the thing is, if you get a 295...there isn't really anywhere to go, quad sli 295 doesn't scale that well and the power to performance ratio...is not good. But you can get a 5850 for around the price of the 295 and in xfire they will well and truly blow away the 480 even. your board doesn't support SLI anyway so you couldn't SLI if you wanted to xfire 5850's is the only thing that makes sense...
gtx295 is fast as gtx480 with lack of dx11 gtx460 is quite slower card than gtx295 no doubt but u have option to do sli where this card realy shine.
updated my specs they were out of date by some way. cant do xfire or sli on my board so its a single card solution. got a 5870xxx but not happy with it. it had a lot of issues with grey screen of death had to get new bios from xfx and hotfix for windows and don't particularly like the ati drivers so wanna go back to nividia, the hope is to sell the 5870 buy either a 460 or 295 both are £185 and make a little profit from the sale of the 5870 to use on future upgrades. Mainly at the moment the only games i really play on the pc are Borderlands COd MW2 CSS and bad company 2. Not really a huge buyer of pc games anymore i use the ps3 more. I just want this thing to switch on and work and not have to keep doing hotfixes and bios updates to get a card to work, And even though the 5870 is fixed now i just dont want it anymore because of the sheer annoyance it has caused.
Both will play those games with no issue, the 460 will be supported by nvidia for longer and have a longer warranty (based on your first post). Bad company 2 can also use Directx 11 for increased visuals which will only be available on the 460. Edit: + the 295 is a dual die GPU with I believe uses a form of inbuilt SLI anyway, thus not sure if it suffers from the occasional SLI bug.
I wouldnt change my 295s for anything on the market at the moment, there ultra fast minus dx11,but then again what games are dx 11 heavy at the moment?I do not know of any...dx11 is a "want" and not a "need" for me atm. I dont see the point in me spending close on a £1000 for 2x 480s for the same performance for what i have now with dx 11 added.Dx 11 games i dont know any that use it heavily,so for me its a waste of money.
I guess if you just want something that works and don't want to lose too much performance (compared to the 5870) then get the GTX 460 1GB SC version ($250 from EVGA). You can probably sell your used 5870 for $250 or more.
If you actually read his post 5870 have alot of issues thats why he want new card... GTX295 is quite faster so i would say better choice...
Kinda like: Some ATi card gets 100fps while a nvidia card at the same price tag gets 80fps. If you prefer nvidia, why go for ATi
you are right. I actually have 2 295`s . One in this rig and 1 in my back up rig. the 295 keeps up with 1 480 with no dx 11. I am contemplating selling some old gear and quad sli the 295`s. how they run in quad sli?
It depends on the game and the driver, only game i have found that dont work too well is gta4,but that games badly optimized anyhow, all othergames work ok.If i was to be totally honest with you,you dont need 2xgtx 295,i leave one of mine disabled as its very rarely used,1 gtx 295 is plenty for 99% of games,i only use 2 when i want to bench,im thinking of selling my gtx 295 as its not needed.
