So.. haven't been online in a while because of how busy life has been. But anyways I now have to take a Polygraph test concerning consuming Prescription Pills. So here's the story. Firstly accused of being on "something @ work" "Random" drug test... Fail for THC. Okaaayyy big deal I smoke when I go home. I admit this. I was currently prescribed something called Paxil. I was prescribed this because I asked the Doc if there was something I could take to concentrate better in my office. He prescribed me that **** drug. Anyways I'm "Randomly" drug tested 25 days after my first initial Positive THC test. They now say I'm on "Benzodiazepines" Okay so i'm like yeah thats this right here (I name my prescription for Paxil) And they say that it's no way it's that. I'm also taking something called "Simply Sleep" for my sleep problem. I've taken this for many years now... but not constantly nor consistent. Anyways to stop rambling on and on.. They basically Fire me, I go to the owner with my complaint and now I have to take a polygraph "Test"... I've done my research, I understand that the polygraph can not detect lies and what not. I'm also concerned because of this... I could simply be nervous about that particular question "have you ever taken prescription pills before" that my body responds due to the nervousness of that particular question and therefor renders my "No" as a lie. So i've chosen to apply Counter-measures during my test to insure my passing and scoring a perfect score on my test. Anyone else here ever have to take one of these ridiculous "Tests"?
Mythbuster had some amateur attempts at cheating the polygraph (lie-detector test), which failed miserably Was never submitted to it, but it seems it's a professional test that's pretty accurate, so I wouldnt worry about stressing (lol)
And Mythbusters is the say-all of truth now is it? There is a reason it is not admitted in court, as it is not reliable. My suggestion for the OP is to consult an attorney.
I've watched Penn & Tellers Bull****: Polygraphs episode. They claim the machine is a fraud. Great episode.
No but from my understanding they really don't do a thing. They are used to extract more information during interrogation that's it. Pay attention to the questions, they may use the response against you later on, don't even worry about anything else besides that. But if your really worried, stay worried, I figure if you act & feel nervous the whole time they can't get a base line on you anyway. If they say you fail, call BS. I don't believe these tests prove anything beyond the fact your nervous. Also as mentioned above an attorney is a great idea.
I'm gonna beat the **** out of this test. I have read the book "The lie behind the lie detector" and re-read chapters 3-4 two additional times. I know the in's and out's of the interrogation. There are several types of questions, Control questions, Relevant questions, Irrelevant questions. Control question = A question they know you will lie to, EG: "Have you ever lied before" They look for a response, change in breath, temperature, etc... wait 20 - 30 seconds and will more than likely change to another "Grouped" control question, this time getting an easy truth, Do you live at blah blah blah.. etc.. you answer yes... He then looks for a difference compared and contrasted to the first control question. Prepare for the relevant question: Have you stolen the money? You say no but this time apply no counter-measures. This insures you have a wonderful scoring Polygraph "Test" Counter-measures consist of mental and physical countermeasures. A lot of people claim you can clinch your sphincter but this can be detected easily. For the physical part, you can bite the side of your tongue for approx. 2-4 seconds during your Control question in which you are forced to lie for. The mental part is to challenge your mind; put yourself in danger, a snake bit, falling, complicated math, etc. anything to generate a change in your body. Another mental note is to never admit anything, this "Testing machine" is simply a tool to fool you into believing that it can actually detect your lies (if you're lying) and force you into a confession. The interrogator uses this as his primary tool.. if there is anyone lying it's the interrogator...
IMO lie detector devices should be banned. Even though a lie detector is not admissible in court, they can act as a tool to generate lynch mobs when operated on suspects. Yes the court can classify your results as confidential, but the government cant keep the lid on jack diddly squat.
Polygraph machines are dependent on the person reading it. If the guy is a noob and isn't good at his job, he may simply read it wrong. Polygraph machines are pretty freaking accurate. I took one, thinking i could beat it, but i failed, i couldn't get away with a single question out of 30. Which wasn't a problem as i only lied on the questions that were harmless. IE, i lied on my birthdate, and it caught me. It's not that you lie, it's what you lie about. BTW, if you got fired for doing illegal drugs, stop doing drugs. If i were leading that company, i wouldn't hire you back, not a chance.
if you failed at the drugs test and the company says you cant work because of it then dude, its their rules deal with it. Stop QQ'ing and look for alternative employment
The only drugs i have taken have been either over the counter of prescribed to me. Other than the smoking pot. I'm not in trouble over the weed. it's the assumption that i'm taking prescriptions. So I must prove otherwise. Changing my career is not an option. I will not simply lie down and accept termination over BS assumptions.
No problem-o dude! See section 3. Except as provided in sections 7 and 8, it shall be unlawful for any employer engaged in or affecting commerce or in the production of goods for commerce— (1) directly or indirectly, to require, request, suggest, or cause any employee or prospective employee to take or submit to any lie detector test; (2) to use, accept, refer to, or inquire concerning the results of any lie detector test of any employee or prospective employee; (3) to discharge, discipline, discriminate against in any manner, or deny employment or promotion to, or threaten to take any such action against— (A) any employee or prospective employee who refuses, declines, or fails to take or submit to any lie detector test, or (B) any employee or prospective employee on the basis of the results of any lie detector test or (4) to discharge, discipline, discriminate against in any manner, or deny employment or promotion to, or threaten to take any such action against, any employee or prospective employee because- (A) such employee or prospective employee has filed any complaint or instituted or caused to be instituted any proceeding under or related to this Act, (B) such employee or prospective employee has testified or is about to testify in any such proceeding, or (C) of the exercise by such employee or prospective employee, on behalf of such employee or another person, of any right afforded by this Act.
There is always the possibility that you got busted with the weed, so now your employers are putting you into the fire pit just to see how much of a junkie you may or may not be. After all, drug addicts are liars. :/ If it were me, I wouldn't try to weasel out of it, I would just say "bring it on!". How's that for brutal honesty?
