date about 256 drivers

Any update on any new or these drivers?

 

Nope, they are vaporware atm.

This week or next week, said this guy in the nvidia forum.

 

i use the same driver an i run the 260 as physx an like the above poster said all i do is select it in the nv control panel

 

The last couple of drivers specific for the 400 series do not contain the hardware ID's in the INF for GTX 200 and below GPU'. IF you installed over a driver that did have the hardware ID's, PhysX will still work. IF you do a clean install of the GTX 400 specific drivers, GTX 200 and below cards will not work as PhysX cards without modifying the INF file. Hopefully that clears things up.

Well that bloody sucks. So glad I did not jump in and get a couple of 480's for surround. As usual NV talking utter p1sh to sell cards!!!!

I have been waiting to see what they are like in surround. I guess I can stop PMing hilbert for a while now about getting hold of the drivers.

Disappointed to say the least. Maybe AMD will get the 6000 out before NV get the 256 drivers out. :bang:

 

Eyefinity and Surround are both implimented in the same way. Nvidia actually use to have the same functionality years ago but took it out when we got to.. Windows XP I believe.

Eyefinity doesn't use any hardware, just like Nvidia won't. The only thing they are doing is creating one large spanned display.

They are not implemented the same way.

Eyefinity is ran from hardware. Surround is ran by software.

From my understanding, the only thing that differs hardware-wise is that ATI doesn't need a second card for the third monitor (and up to 6th if you count the Six edition), but the "spanning" itself is through software in both cases.

It's detected by hardware not software. Spanning and things of that nature of course are software.

With Nvidia it is all software.

I can say this from user experience, as I own a HD 5870 and a GTX 480.

Once this 256 series driver comes out, I'll then decide which card I'll be keeping.

 

Whichever one you choose then, send me the other one xD

 

No, there's some kind of hardware involved in ATI's variant. I'm currently looking for the article I read that in, I feel like it was on anandtech or something.

Be it as it may, the important thing to me (and many others I would think) is that with ATI you only need to buy one card (for a 3x1 setup, that is). I will however hold my current triplehead setup for a while, as at the moment they don't support different resolutions across the monitors, and I can't afford to buy them + the card now (doing the softTH route currently).
