Only the 2nd 10.4 preview fixed the load times for the HD4000 series. The 1st 10.4 preview and 10.4 WHQL only fixed the load times for the HD5000 series.

As someone who mainly uses an ATI card for media playback, I have a question. The release notes mention that there is hardware playback support for H.264, what does this include? From what I remember .mkv files generally contain H.264 (or was that x.264?).

Either way, what files will this new hardware playback support?

there's hw support for h.264 since many years (L4.1 and below). the addition in this driver is the L5.1 support which is part of the h.264 videos.. yeah, mkv's are usually x264 which contain h.264.

Same here with my 4830 until I installed the last Profile update,

    http://www.rage3d.com/xmp/

Doesn't say it there, but took both for my load times to be fixed.

    Oh and steve-,

I guess I do read much. I did try the 10.4 preview when it was released for the HD 4000 series... but performance is worse than 10.3 even though load times are faster in Bad Company 2.

So steve- You are god and I will never be able to have the wisdom you do. It would be one thing to simply be friendly and tell me to give the 10.4 preview drivers a shot but instead you choose to make a comment like that.

    ^^^^^ - From BFBC 2 fix for HD4000 series TODAY on 4-21-10

Oh, I tried those, they were the ones didnt load the CCC for me, and threw me some errors during installation. Gonna try again I guess

edit: it seems they work now, perhaps they required 10.4 installed before, and not over the 10.3 or clean installation (also, I just read that they have "hotfix" word on them, so was it a patch?)

    doesnt matter, gonna try them

Just noticed thats another updated set, as they are dated the 27th (2 days ago), and have some Splinter Cell Conviction fixes.

    Toms2D v1.04 - Radeon 5970 (i920)

    Direct
    10.3 - 2422
    10.4 - 2437

    DIB buffered
    10.3 - 2826
    10.4 - 2789

For comparison - 9800GX2 in same machine:

    Direct - 1964
    DIB - 2444

Doesn't look like any improvement to me according to those tests...in fact the buffered drawing is worse overall?!? Also can't understand why the buffered is not much better than the direct compared to the diffferences for the GX2...

    WTF is this?

Anyone notice this after going to these? Windows 3d experience dropped to 6.0 from 7.5.

Does not mean much really just annoying. Never saw this with Nvidia.
