Truth is really I cant afford to get core i7 as much as I would love to get one, so is there any really difference from skt 775 core2quads to i5 or should I just upgrade my Abit motherboard and processor to something more suitable?

Just get a Q9550. For gamers, you won't see too big a jump as if you were running servers. Servers see a much much bigger jump between the Core microarchitecture and the Nehalem microarchitecture than gamers usually see.

Why are you running your Q6600 at stock speed? Why not just OC it and call it a day? :3eyes:

My opinion is the same live above , get a Q9550 , BUT keep in mind that socket 775 is old , and P55/H55 is replacing 775 , you can wait and get a P55/H55 platform , its the actual intel mid-end , the motherboard cost is lower than X58 and with a Core i5 750 will have a plenty of performance.

Of course it depends of your budget.

    Overclock is always a good choice , I have mine on 3.0Ghz , 3 years old :D

Heh, we've all suggesed the Q9550 to other people on the forum and they have been more than happy with their purchase. If you get the Q9550, it sure is going to be hard to beat for that price in the future as it shouldnt give you any bottlenecking. If anything, your 8800GT wont be able to keep up, so youll have to OC that a bit.
In the end, its probably the best and sometimes cheapest way out. If you want a new Intel setup, its surley going to cost more than $300 because you need the motherboard, CPU and RAM. Thats easily $450-500.

because 650i motherboards dont make good for overclocking, anyway I was also thinking of upgrading my motherboard aswell, but have to make sure it has sli, so 9550 or 9650. Then gradually upgrading the GPU
