Well if you do buy a 480 or whatever the refresh of the 480 is I wouldn't recommend doing so without a 3rd party HSF (there should be some out sometime soon I assume).

The default fan settings on the 480 are retarded, a video showed that at idle the fan pretty much turns off which is why it was idling at 76c, that's insane.

There will be a refresh of the 480, as nvidia will want to release a 512sp version of the card. The question is when, and I wouldnt expect it to be soon - maybe 6 months or so.

I'd certainly wait a bit before upgrading from a 295, at least until prices on the 480's drop a bit.

I dont think you will really see the benefit coming from a 295 as its a seriously quick card as it is, DX11 isnt worth it as no games use it well in any shape or form.

Definitely wait. Even my card can in some games keep up or outclass the GeForce GTX 480. Which is disappointing to me. I'm in the waiting boat now too. Your card trumps mine, so I would think it very foolish to buy a GeForce GTX 480 if you have what you have.

A Radeon HD 5970 is a good step up, but I feel like I'd regret the purchase (partly because of price) because I've been hearing about the next ATI generation - and who knows, nVidia might release something to trump the Radeon HD 5970.

i will skip this generation i guess my setup till now can run all the games on max with eye candy stuff. so i see no point of this.
i guess next generation will be more optimized and faster and for sure not hot as this one.
so i suggest u the same.

if i were you i'd keep the gtx 295 because it still is a great card in terms of performance and as Copey said dx 11 isnt yet a must have, just wait for nvidia to cool down a bit(alot)

yeah my baby scores around 23k which is awsome ... i was thinking abt having 2x 5850. but i guess 295gtx can definitly give me enough time to wait for price drop.

stay with 295 atleast till 2nd generation fermi and who knows if maybe till 3rd generation. the 295 is still competitive against fermi. and even a bit faster in some games. for example crysis. and some other game i cant remember. this is what i saw in some benches. the only thing good about fermi is dx11 other than that its a total fail IMO.

so unless you are doing an evga step up program then dont even bother changing it.

Not worth upgrading 295. You'll get nearly same performance. Wait for refresh (512SP 480 with bugs fixed, dual-gpu)

    295 is pretty legend,

unless you really want DX11 now then just keep it.
