    Hey yall,

I have been google'ing and searching for information on proxies and I'm down to asking for yall's advice and opinions now. I have seen many "anonymous surfing" programs out there, most of which you must pay for, and they provide a web browser proxy. I also learned a little about open proxies and general proxies for other applications rather than just a web browser.

I mainly just want to be able to surf the web and not allow the sites I am searching to see my real IP address and location. Are there any free ways to keep my online activities anonymous for free? If so, would I go about finding a program which connects me to proxies and how would I find the proxy information? Any help to get me started in the right direction would be great.

    Thanks a bunch,
    Korben

I don't know for firefox, but there's a special version of opera called OperaTor wich allows surfing the net anonimously, using Tor...but sadly it's not up to date with the latest 10.51 opera version.

Do you guys trust those proxy servers ?
Do you think that it's better to give your info to those anon servers than to sites which you visit ?

I'm curious because I dont use proxy.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

@Tat3: I have been checking into proxies more and I share the same concern as you.

Tor Browser bundle, its the best imo. it uses FireFox as wellhttp://www.torproject.org/torbrowser/
    http://www.torproject.org/overview.html.en

Read at link above...tons of useful info on what it does and does not do, its all opensource stuff and apparantly one of the most secure methods
