    Specs in sig ^^

So, ive got my FSB set to 1600 (400x4) and thats pushed my cpu to 3Ghz with 1.248v (1.20v under load)

I would like to get to 4Ghz or close to but i just can seem to get there.

I have overclocked the ram on its own to 1Ghz and it runs fine, no crashes and games run fine.

I then overclocked the FSB witch of corse overclocks the ram as well but with a 2000Mhz FSB (500*4) the ram is at 1Ghz and as ive tested the ram at that speed i know it works.

I lowered the multi on the cpu from 7.5 to 6 so the cpu runs at 3ghz witch again i know it works fine at.

But, ocing the fsb is making my comp so unstable. windows would crash or it wouldent even get to the desktop. So i started to lower the fsb down 25mhz at a time 475, still unstable... 450, 425 all unstable 400, its fine.

I tried upping the voltage on the MCH witch made no diffrence.

It seems to me that anything over 400mhz just wont work :(

Again i stress that the cpu and ram are all working fine at 3ghz cpu and ram at 1000mhz but when thats with the fsb at 500mhz and not 400 its just not working :(

    Any ideas gurus?

Voltage settings and limits for the mch, cpu etc etc?

    Cheers

Can you list what hardware your actually running, manufacturer model etc

Seems your running the Q8300, with its 7.5multi you'd need a 533Mhz FSB to do 4Ghz

    You need some FSB voltage.

Hmm.. no "FSB Voltage" options that i can see.. Listed as somthing else maybe?

Here are some pics. Ignore what i got it all set to for the most part as this was taken last night while i was "tweaking" xD

"FSB voltage" is your "CPU Termination" voltage. But you have to know this CPU is not good at all for overclocking and 4ghz is almost impossible on it without LN².

Forget it, with your current Mobo (and almost every single mobo) you´ll never reach 4Ghz with your Cpu, you need 533FSB for that and it´s a hell just to go over 500FSB with a quad even on high end motherboards.

As well that cpu is not that good to reach 4ghz anyway.

    Good Luck!

Depends of the quad. 550mhz is running fine on my Q9650 with PSU tweaking, and on air.

The fact is the Q8300 is a hell to OC, and world records on it aren't very higher than 4ghz. And it's on high end motherboards. But 3.2 or 3.4Ghz seems doable. The problem is that Krakken, you don't seem to know much about overclocking, and even less on overclocking a C2Q.
I think you should go on overclocking specialized websites and read guides about voltages, GTL, clock skews, and memory overclocking (perf level / trd tweaking can be usefull for your OC, to push higher fsb).

Same as Aioras : Good luck !

    Your joking right? LOL

Ive been at this for 10 years m8.

Every chip, mobo, ram etc all react diffrently when it comes to overclocking.

My Celeron E3200 is a prime example of this, most ppl would get 4ghz easy with about 1.35vcore. But mine would need 1.55vcore @ 3.8Ghz and would not get to 4ghz

So are you saying i dont know much cus im asking for help? :3eyes:

Outside input is always good! Its good to know how other people are overclocking, what settings etc.

Try 1.32V CPU termination with ~.8 cpu ref, and 1.375-1.4V CPU vcore

Your PLL doesn't need to be that high, 1.57-1.59max

    I shall try those

but the PLL volts go up, 1.550 - 1.650 - 1.750 etc etc so ill leve it at 1.550

Yeah I am not really comfortable with CPU PLL over 1.6V for a 24/7 clock

I said that because you didn't know what the fsb voltage is. VTT/Vfsb/FSB Term/CPU Term, it's all the same.

Asking for help is a good thing but you said it : every chip reacts differently to overclocking. So you have to test by yourself with what you know. Your VTT is low.

Another thing : you said you memory is working fine @ 1Ghz because you tested it in games. And in memtest ? Prime ? You aren't telling us with what stability test you have verified your actual overclock.

At last, without asking anything here, you can find on the web many people with the same CPU and overclocking world records with it, too. Two teams are at more than 4Ghz for a CPUZ validation, but none of them can run SuperPi 1m @ 4Ghz.

    You know now.

    Thanks for that ross.

Id given up since any thing over 400mhz fsb was just Unstable. But ill try those settings.

Im using the F7 bios for my mobo as the F10 made any oc unstable :(

Krakken, I believe I gave you a BIOS template for P45 chipsets. Disregard that post I made above.

This is where I am getting the templates from - Gigabyte BIOS Templates (To Give Us Your Settings)

Here is a P35 BIOS template (applicable for P31 chipsets) -

Fill in your information using that template, make a thread on TweakTown's Gigabyte section, and they will help you with your OC. I recommend asking for a template from lsdmeasap for whatever speed you want on your chip.
