    LATEST UPDATE: here

    Me - mostly gaming and sometimes p0rn downloads :nerd:
    Bro - mostly chatting with his fat ass gf over cam for hrs and midnight mystery downloads :3eyes:
    Sis - rarely use internet but she goes crazy watching online TV that uses MOST of the bandwidth :bang:

    Now the other problem is cable modem to hub AND to wireless hub!
    CABLE MODEM -> HUB#1
    HUB PORT #1 -> MY PC
    HUB PORT #2 -> WIRELESS HUB
    WIRELESS HUB #1-> BRO'S PC
    WIRELESS HUB #2 -> SIS'S LAPTOP

    the reason i have two hubs is that one is old ass D-Link that has never failed me since 2001 and recently my sister got a wireless hub so she can watch man porn or whatever she does on her laptop

    Wow, your descriptions are something alright, I got a pretty good laugh. I recommend you try QoS (Quality of Service) on your networking devices. When you say hub, do you mean router? Check if your "hubs" support QoS, and look into implementing this feature on them.

    You could also try using Net Limiter. You will have to install the software on each PC, but maybe it can help spare your limited bandwidth. You can find out more about NetLimiter here - http://www.netlimiter.com/ - NetLimiter is an ultimate internet traffic control and monitoring tool designed for Windows. You can use NetLimiter to set download/upload transfer rate limits for applications or even single connection and monitor their internet traffic.

    Along with this unique feature, Netlimiter offers comprehensive set of internet statistical tools. It includes real-time traffic measurement and long-term per-application internet traffic statistics

    i am using this hub which is discontinued model

    as for netlimiter i've used that program on mine before but i don't think i can convince them to install it LOL

    hubs and fail

    hubs fail because they do not allocate bandwidth properly, it shouldn't be that much of a problem with three users given a 7.5 Mb connection but i suppose it could be. Routers, switches and AP's are cheap as can be. Get a new one and try it out. Test the bandwitdth to make sure you are getting what your ISP is stating and complain if not. Otherwise get a new service and tell the high bandwidth users to pay more of the bill for a faster connection.

    Try sharing 1.5mb 256kb upload with three people. and its wireless modem! But with my old roomates we had 16mb with 4 people total. I could play ps3 or CSS online no lag with the other three torrenting. key was keeping the upload at 10kbs per person lol. But i feel ya. I cant play online or do alot if my roomie watches. Agreed u need to get a net limiter.

    found a solution to the problem - simply pay back

    [IMG]
    rofl dling at peak hour at nearly 1MB/sec :wanker: guess who's lagging now bitch

    btw my upload is capped at 60KB/sec

    I got a 4.6 megabit connection shared by 3 actively used computers and a xbox 360.

    there was a spark of hope when i learnt that the local comms company had installed a fibre optical network around the are I live in, but then of course I live in an apartment building that also houses a lot of elders. And when it comes to a thing like this, all the people who live in the building decide together whether or not the cables are drawn from the building root to the apartments.

    and guess what? the elders (majority) decided that it's not necessary (they don't even have computers :bang: ), so no cigar

    so for now I either have to move or wait for them to die one by one and wait for younger people to move in :3eyes:

    oh and 4.6 megs is the max the old line can do, and it was originally meant for phones (30+ years ago)

    Why don't you try using a powered switch's instead of hubs.

    Also, just so you know, wireless setups lose you 1/2 or more of your bandwidth to the computer connected wirelessly.

    Frankly, I have a 1.5 meg connection for 2 computers.

    Also, as was suggested, set up the QOS on all computers.

    Tell em it is making the internet faster with proper configuration.

    first... that hub is literally from 1996 or 1997. that was the first networking hub i ever bought. its a sh!t 10megabit HUB that can't provide proper bandwidth to multiple machines because of all the packet collisions that will occur if more than 1 device is plugged in.

    second, seriously dude... buy a wireless g or n router with 100mbit switch ports on it that has some type of QoS. This will solve nearly all your issues with multiple people.

    i'veupgraded from 7.5mbps to 15mbps but my speedtest and various test remains under 9mbps so it must be the hub at 10mbps max. lol time to upgrade the ancient hub to router, i'm not sure which one is good with too much configuration crap since i will connect it to another wireless router.

    just get a router that splits bandwidth to your choosing - problem solved.

    This
    Get a router with Bandwith management.
    You can assing bandwith to services / ports / ips..... even giving them different values in terms of schedules / horus / etc

    Eg good QoS features.

    In the past I used a dlink gaming router when I was on cable.

    DGL-4300 it was called, now superseeded by DGL-4500.
    Basically that automatically identifies gaming traffic and proirities it through the router, so when other people are hammering the network it doesn't affect your pings too much.
    Its called "gamefuel", really just a basic automated version of QoS.
    It seems to work well, but I was sharing a 20mb cable connection with only 1 other person so didn't really need it.

    Now i'm on ADSL and have about 18mb connection, i have a Bilion 7200NX router which has very good QoS features.
    If I needed to i can assign/limit bandwidth (eg speed) both up and downsteam for any connected device.
    You can also do this on a port basis, or make certian ports have greater priority.

    With those types of features you could
    1) limit the speed of the other connections as a whole - to say 1 mb each
    or
    2) limit the speed and/or priorty of the ports used by your brothers torrent- so it doesn't use all the bandwidth
    or
    3) prioritse all traffic to your computer

    or some combo of them all !!!

    turn out the problem was my old hub which only supported 10mbps and i just got a dlink 5 port gigabit desktop switch
