I picked up a Sony Sen-R6500 speaker system at a GoodWill the other day. The system consists of a Sony TA-E741 Amplifier, powered 270W Sony SA-E651 Sub, Two 240W Sony SS-U651AV floor speakers, A 66W Sony SS-CN64 Center speaker and two 50W Sony SS-U64 Rear speakers. The speakers all hook into the Sub and from there go to the Amplifier. Anyway I was wondering if I got rid of the Amp and got a Onkyo Receiver like the TX-SR307 or TX-SR507 and hooked the speakers to that. Would it be better (in terms of sound quality) then buying an Onkyo Home Theater System like the HT-S3200 or HT-S5200? Thanks. Pics included, the second pic is of the back of the sub.
Not a bad system if you got a good price! Have a listen. Chances are it will be better then say a HTiB with small plastic speaker etc. Nice the receiver has dedicated analog input as you can connect that right up to the soundcard.
Exactly, can't beat that. If you look at the back of the receiver, you see one inputs for each channel which is great because it connects right up to a PC using analog connection. You will need 3 cables though, They have the small 3.5mm jack on one end and dual RCA's on the other. 1 cable for the left and right front channels. 1 cable will be for the left and right rear channel 1 cable will be for the center and sub Here is a picture of the cable to give you an idea of a set of cables you can use: If you can't infd those You can also use an adpter such as this: .....then you can just use normal RCA patch cables. Such as these: There are lots of ways to connect your PC top that receiver. Stroke of luck that you got a receiver with discrete 5.1 inputs or else you wouldn't be able to get 5.1 on that -well maybe if it had digital input. Some time the above adapters can be easy to use because the 3.5mm to dual RCA cables come with very wide 3.5mm jacks. They usually have too much plastic around the shank so putting then side by side on a soundcard is next to impossible. If the information is still unclear let us know and somebody will explain in more detail.
I was just looking at the Onkyo receivers and the TX-SR707 is the only one with dedicated analog inputs for the left/right front channels, left/right rear, center/sub. And it's $500. I'd like to not pay so much if possible. What other way could I get sound out to it? Optical, COAX? Any other way?
Are you sure? It should be a common things for receviers to have dedicated inputs for analog. Maybe your mising them out with Preouts.... The one you just boght has dedicated analog inputs according to the picture you posted. You can use Digital input yes, but as many of us have found if your using a good card-using digital will usually be a downgrade in sound quality. This is why I suggest to peopel to go analog.
That's the picture of the Sub. The Sony receiver has RCA outputs for the front right/left, center, rear and woofer and the Sony Sub has RCA Inputs for front right/left, center, rear, and Woofer. The speakers hook into the sub and the sub has input from the receiver. I included a pic of the receiver. Yes your right they all have dedicated inputs for analog I was wrong! On the back of the Onkyo tx-sr507 receiver it has Zone 2 out and Pre Out. That's where the outputs to my pc would goto right?
Oh....bummer. I thought that was the inputs for your receiver. You don't even have a digital input. You will be stuck in stereo....
Okay. The first pic is of a Onkyo TX-SR507. Where on the back would the cables go to my pc? Because the second pic is of a Pioneer VSX-819H-K and where I highlighted seems to be where I would connect to my pc sound card.
The Muiti channel input that you have a green square around in the other picture, is where you would connect your pc to.
from the look of it your outta luck with that recivier unless you use a very long optical cable from your onboard audio to your recivier.
The Yamaha RX-V363 which I got as a present recenty has muiti channel inputs,it just doesnt send HDMI audio to the speakers just passthru.
