MKV HD Video issue with 9.11 drivers

Out of lets say 100 MKV that I have maybe 5 have this issue.

Keep in mind this happens on 2 different systems both using Cat. 9.11's

1 systems has a 5780 and the other has a 5750.

On my Nvidia 8800ultra system the video plays flawless.

 

Only with 9.11?

Is 9.10 or earlier fine? If it was fine on 9.10 are you certain it didn't use software decoding?

Does it play fine if you enable software decoding under 9.11 and let it use that?

The reason I'm asking is that I've only seen this happening with forced hardware decoding of the kind of videos UVD doesn't seem to like.

 

I have only tried with the 9.11's. I am using Sharks latest codec pack and below are my settings for WMP Classic. I also have same issue when using Windows Media Player on Win7.

 

Alright, let's try playing it through software and we'll see how that works out then.

With W7 and MPHC you really don't need any kind of codec packs. Indeed, just using the Haali splitter I've been able to play just about anything with nothing more than WMP 12.

Anyway, back to MPHC.

If you drop down into "Internal Filters" you should have options for both "H264/AVC" and "VC1" under the right, "Transform Filters" menu. Disable/untick the "DXVA" ones and enable/tick the "FFmpeg" ones.

You might want to uninstall any external codec packs and reboot beforehand, to make sure no other filters are being used.

You should probably see a CPU usage of 10-40% depending on your CPU at this point but if it's the same issue I've seen it should play without artifacts.

It's worth a shot just to eliminate this particular issue I reckon.

Also, you might want to set EVR/.net3 just in case but I doubt this should make any difference.

 

Looks like you don't have or are not using the right codecs.



Question: The transform filters in MPC - is that just another name for external filters?

I uninstalled the Codec packs then unticked DXVA and presto! Thanks so much.. I hope this thread helps others

Shame that you couldn't get it to work with hardware offloading but at least it plays.

 

OK, this is not good if DXVA isn't working correctly for 720p on ATI. There is a known issue that L5.1 doesn't work on ATI, but 720p should be OK, unless it has mad amounts of ref frames.

I'm a dev on MPC-HC, can you please confirm it's just in MPC-HC or does it happen in other apps too? (eg powerdvd or tmt)

Can you tell me how to decide which filters to enable/disable to get the best picture for avi files? I have Pdvd installed...

 

Best I can report is that it happens in:
Media Player Classic x64 (latest)
Windows Media Player 11
Windows Media Player 12

 

Thanks, I assume you're not using WMP with the MPC standalone filters?

I was using Win7codec by shark007... i uninstalled like told in previous posts but just realized it didn't really install.. So I got it to uninstall finally and now Media Player Classic plays the movie with DXVA enabled..

 

Just use the internal xvid filter as it uses ffmpeg (same as ffdshow) and use one of the pixel shader sharpeners if you're upscaling (SharpenComplex2 is considered the best).

 

You don't really need any codec packs with mpc, although seem people do like to use coreavc instead of internal h264 decoder, but MPC-HC should play pretty much most formats out-of-the-box

 

So do I disable all the rest? If I enable post processing in ffdshow like deinterlacing or deblocking etc, does it get processed twice? Once by software and then aqain by my gfx card? Or ....?

You know where I can find this info?


obtw I have divx. CoreAVC, ffdshow and avisynth installed. Is that bad?

 

Hardware deinterlacing only happens in NV12 colourspace, mpc should output YV12 or YUY2.


Not sure I understand your question about ffdshow post processing, i thought you were using mpc to decode the file?

 

So then if I have a player what else do I need? Decoder----Filter---Renderer? Is that how it works?

Just use MPC-HC, it does all you need without the need for any external software/codecs/filter/whatever.

 

How do I do that?
