My PC is running quite a bit faster now, as far as system startup, file transfers, and transitions between open programs, as compared to Vista. I've never had any problems with Vista, but this performance boost is sure worth the $29.99 I paid for the Digital River student edition of Home Premium x64. I even found these instructions:

    http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-installation-upgrade/23049-uk-student-download-version.html

to make my "Upgrade Version" into a Full Retail installation media ISO. Worked like a champ! Didn't have to mess with upgrading Vista at all, just followed all the instructions, then did a fresh install of Windows 7 using the bootable DVD I created.

Full Windows 7 for $30. Can't beat it!

    I've ordered Win7 Pro 64-bit.

Once it arrives I'll be in no hurry. I've been running Win7 since February. It's worth the money.

Why worry if your pirated copy will get blacklisted down the road? Just buy a legit key off ebay.

Times 3...I got the family upgrade pack and have done two of three of my machines already with Home Premium 64 Bit. Installed XP on my main machine...and was able to do a clean install off the Upgrade by booting in and letting it format XP off the drive. Wife's machine...did a simple upgrade from Vista HP 64 and it took about an hour....have to admit...her machine is smooth and fast even after upgrade. Pretty impressed on how MS made this upgrade probably their best ever...

One more to go...one of my laptops gets the treat...probably the HP

The only bad thing in Windows 7 is that it looks a bit too grayish and bland compared to Vista.

I just bought Windows 7 Professional 64-bit at the student discount price of £39 (I ordered the full retail DVD as well which should come via mail in a few weeks), and I'm currently downloading it and it's still got 3:27:11 left! LOL I can take a nap in that time.. Or go to Tesco..

Anyway, I don't know why I am downloading Windows 7 when I'm going to install it off the disk I'll get anyway, but whatever.. :)

I had Windows 7 Home Edition delivered from Amazon on Wednesday so I've been running the 64-bit version for a few days now. I did an in-place upgrade over Vista SP2 (64-bit) and it's been working brilliantly; I didn't even have to install any graphics, chipset or sound drivers, surely a first for a Windows installation? The actual upgrade took almost two hours but it was completely automated and required no user input from me until it was almost ready to be used. So I was free to go off and do other things while the installation went about its business.

I'm delighted with it. My PC now feels so much more responsive; it boots up and shuts down quicker and the hard drive isn't being thrashed anywhere near as much as Vista. I love the new improvements to the user interface too, particularly the taskbar and libraries feature.

Two days in and I don't think I could go back to Vista's clunkiness to be honest.

    What?!?

You customise the colours or select from preset ones and there are tons of beautiful and extremely colourful themes to download from Microsoft. Personally I'd say my Windows 7 desktop is anything BUT 'grayish and bland'.

sooner or later you will have to buy windows 7, you won't get to far having a hack OS after they start releasing all the security updates and expansion packs. do yourself a favor and get a legal key.

Ran Vista the whole time with the same hack and never had an issue.

Will be the same with windows 7 and if I do get blacklisted oh well.

All my impt stuff is not on my OS drive.

And there will always be new hacks/activators.

I went through both Vista service pack updates without a single issue.

we need more people like you. who prefer pirating software. This is another reason why so many games are heading to consoles like ps3 and not pc.
