Would one of the new GT 220's be a better option for physx than a 9800GT?

    and would you think that with a 850W PSU be enough for SLI'd 275's plus a GT 220?? or would i have to find like a 950W?:infinity:

    Mmm... yea but i never really thought that like just for physx you needed something special... i mean just look at the Ageia boards

    Ageia PhysX works differently to Nvidia PhysX; it's all about the shaders (or 'CUDA cores').

    9800 should work alright. Some folks even recommend as much as say a 9600 series for PhysX. As far as the PSU goes, it's better to have the extra headroom if you can swing it. I'm actually thinking of getting a kilowatt psu when I go GTX3xx so that when I go to add more stuff, I'll have the extra resources available.

    I would not go with anything slower than a 8800gt for physx...with the prices right now, like the used market for example, there is no reason to go with anything slower.

    9800 are sweet cards for PhysX but 9600 series ain't bad;)

    The 850W PSU should be enough. I would suggest a card that does not need additional 6-pin PCIe power. The GT 220 does not, nor does some 9600 GT and 9800 GT (look for ones withOUT the 6-pin).

    PhysX needs at minimum 32 CUDA cores and 256MB video RAM. I don't know how much of an improvement more cores, more RAM or higher MHz gives for PhysX. Hmmm, maybe that would be a good article for a hardware site? Any takers? Any existing articles?

    The GT 220 has 48 cores.

    If I were to go this route, I would just see what card is on sale at the time I'm buying.

    I have asked that from many websites and nobody wants to do it.
    I am just getting my GTX 295 today and I do have the 9800gtx+ for physx and the GTX280 that I am replacing....
    maybe I could do it but I have to ship the 280 today to its new owner so it depends on my job...if I go home late then I won't have time to do any testing ....

    yea if anyone might know of a place that has done a test witht eh 220 using physx compared to a 9600/9800 that be nice

    since the card isnt really a gaming card i kinda expected Hilbert to do a physx test not actual gaming in the review :3eyes:

    gtx275 sli (2 use render and physx) is much faster than gtx275 sli (render only) + gt220 as physx.
    physx -> 9800gt is 2x faster than gt220!
    I don't have doubt!!

    Probably so although it depends if the two 275 are being push to their limits then obviously any help they can get is going to be an improvement.
