I have a work PC running Vista ultimate. I have users on this PC DJing playing videos off of an external drive with Virtual DJ software. I am wondering if there is some way to prevent these DJ's from coming in and plugging in an external drive and stealing all the videos off the PC. Is there some way to lock it down so they cant bring in their own HD and take the videos?
make a guest account and change the file permissions to specific folders so that only the administrator can access them
Just go to the drive in Windows Explorer right click it, hit properties then go to sharing. But the Guest account is probably the best way to go in your case I presume.
Try it...right click ANY folder in windows right now. Go to the security TAB Click on the group "guest" or some created login you made Then for permissions tab click deny for read (and all the other tabs if ya want). Boom you locked the folder. It'll look something like this.
